Waheguru Ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh

dear sir,
i have been reading a particular shabd for a while and it is said to repeat it for 108 times to gain the effect we want, why is this so, can you explain.
and also if we are reading gubani shabad do we need to touch the earth,i mean can we do it without our feet touching the ground ?

thankyou

(REPLY) Sat Nam. I am not familiar with any rule or procedure that requires having your feet touch the ground when reciting any shabd. As for 108, someone else may know why this is considered a cosmic number. Definitely, repetition of any shabd makes it more effective. Think of it this way: How many years and how many times must a drop of water fall on the same spot on a stone to make an indentation? Lots! Well, when we recite a shabd, we are trying to make a dent in our sub-conscious minds to get rid of the garbage there and replace it with the divine vibrations of the shabd. It's like recording on a cassette tape --- if there's something already on the tape, you simply record over the old program, and it automatically erases what was on there. Shabds intelligently replace the negativity we all have in our minds with the inspiring, uplifting, positive vibrations of the Guru's words. It takes time. It doesn't happen overnight. Patience pays. There are certain periods of time that are known to have an effect, such as taking 40 days to establish a habit. Anyway, keep reciting! Blessings, SP
