I do not proclaim to know a great deal about Ragaa, and the point I am going to make may have already been covered.
Raag is something which has been used in the Guru Granth Sahib to differentiate the Bani.
For Example, Rehras Paath, which is performed in the early evening, has been compiled predominantly in Raag Asa (Raag of Hope), as it helps an individual to think positive and gives hope if the day has been long and difficult.

So essentially this is one occasion where Raag has been used at a particular time of the day.

Another example would be Raag Gauri Purbi & Raag Gauri Dipaki being used in the late evening during the Kirtan Sohila Paath.
