Category:General Sikhism
Date Posted:Monday, 2/11/2002 4:35 PM MST

My English teacher asked me to do a paper on Sikhism literature. I have to compare the views about death in Sikhism and one poem from medieval. I have th epoem but I need quotes from Sri Guru Granth Sahib. My teacher doesn't want me to write what I know, he wants to see where it is written. SO I need to have 5 direct quotes and I can't read the whole message in one day. So can you please help me to find some quotes on death. I will be trying to look for them too. I need those by wednesday so I can assure my teacher of the subject. He gave me 48 hours to think about it and I have to tell him whether I want to do it or not by wednesday. I will really appericiate your help. Thank you

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
Boy, did you get lucky. No offense. I asked someone years ago to give me their copies of death references from SGGS and still had them here, as it happens. Otherwise I couldn't have helped you.
1. a. 923, Ramkali Sad
2. a. 705-6, Jatisiri M. 5, Ode w/sloks, see pauri beginning "Rakat Bind kar nimmia aagan udar majhar"
3. a 706, pauri beginning "jis bisrat tin bhasam hoe kehetay sabh prayt"
4. a. 707 pauri beginning "kot aghaa sabh naas hoh simrat har nao"
5. a 707, pauri beginning "mahaa bhaiaan udiaan nagar kar maniaa"
This whole "ode with sloks" has many references to the death of those who forget the Lord.

Guru ang sang,
