Many have a yearning to take Amrit and its incredible power is known to have very magical effects on many.
Since you believe Keski is a kakkar (as do I) Im sure you know who Bhai Randhir Singh Ji is, he wrote an excellent book called "The Meaning of Sikh Baptism." In a discussion with another Sikh he made it clear while Amrit should not be held off one must be prepared for it or the gift of Amrit Raas and Naam Raas will not be instantly obtainable (ie, you will not undergo such a massive overhaul in your life and spirituality if you dont prepare).
Bhenji I suggest you fully commit yourself to your Guru NOW, try wearing a Keski out and doing your banis every day. It will be very hard to begin with but once you have got into the swing your 5 sins will start to disappear and this will become a habit and enjoyable experience rather than chore, and you will enjoy going out with a Keski on instead of seeing it as a potential embarassment. So after about 6 months of following the Rehit completely if you have managed to stick by the Gurus code of conduct then you should take Amrit straight away!
Dont worry about what your parents or friends say. Gurbani says all emotional bonds are finite and only your relationship with Satguru is eternal!
