I have had my own experience with "brown Sikh parents" of the Guy I thought "loved me". Tell this boy friend of yours to be a man to voice his concerns, and tell him you want a serious commitment, and nothing else! And as for his proposal to you, tell him to make that "public" too. In Sikh and Indian culture proposals happen in front of the families. Now let me tell you about my "not so tragic story" This "Guy" I thought I knew, led me to believe he was serious about me. HaHa but he went to India and married someone else due to "parental pressure". Now if a man gives in to some pressure then He is not Man enough for me. In doing all this I gained something: complete faith in Gurbani! During my "relationship" with him I took Hukumnamas several times and Waheguru warned me that I was " friends with my enemy" and it was/is true. My only consolation prize was that I had followed Rehit Maryada in this "relationship" due to which I was able to see his true intentions. Sometimes people say nice things to you which they do not mean. They just want to lead you into believing they are serious about you. This "Guy" went as far as discussing the meaning of Lavaans with me. And he told me about an year after his marriage that he was married. So figure out if your guy is serious or if he is doing everything in the name of a game called Fun. And next time you are around him utter these words of Gurbani in your mind so that he can speak out the truth " Nanak Bhagta sadha vigas suniay dookh paap ka naas" and then also say this in your mind " Jin kay Ram Vasay Man Mahay Naa Oh maray na dhagey Jaeey" These spiritual words do work. It worked for me. In the end you only want to know the truth and these divine words of Gurbani will guide you. Just be honest to your Faith and ppl can't make an idiot out of you
