Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!

Dear jee, i was just browsing through the youth forum, and i found the following in one of the messages. I do agree that a sikh should not eat meat. However i am a little confused about the translation. Is Guru ji, saying that in regards to meat, or general killings? I am not sure about the meaning that's why i was asking about this. (please, don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to say that u're not right)

Also, i was just wondering if you could help me find translations of gurbani on the net. (esp. Nitnem + Rehras + Kirtan Sohila and Sukhmani Sahib).

I really appreciate the help! Thanks a lot!!

The Guru's reference that you refer to is from Jaap Ji Sahib, Guru Naanak Dev ji. Its refence is to killing. You are correct in that it does not refer to eating meat.......the reference is implied.....although you may not be doing the killing of the animal to eat meat....the karma of the killing is there.

About the "bani" translations. Perhaps you can find them on Sikhnet under "Peace Lagoon".

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!

The quote in question:

A Sikh must not eat meat. If you want a reference in Gurbani, it is written quite simply in JapJi Sahib, Pauri 18:

"Asankh galvadh hate-aa kamaahe"
Countless are cut-throats who kill and have earned a murder.

Guru Nanak says that if you kill (note that the Guruji doesn't specify only human, Guruji only says if you kill. If you eat meat, then you have killed an animal) you will have earned a murder. Now think about it, is earning a murder a good thing?
