I had a question regarding a law being passed in Amritsar Sahib a few years ago prohibiting all sikhs from consuming alcohol who keep Guru Granth Sahib at home. If there is such law, can you please e-mail me the exaxt wordings of the law. I would really appreciate if you could answer my question.
Thank You

Dear Manita:
Sat Siri Akaal. None of the moderators of this forum live in Amritsar or India, and we would be hard-pressed to find this information as a result. I can suggest places you might look, and perhaps someone reading this post can help.
You might start with http://www.sikhseek.com. This is a site connected to Sikhnet where people have posted their Sikh-related websites. You can search this site using keywords 'amritsar' and 'alcohol.' As you peruse the sites, you might find that some are connected to or based in Amritsar and then you can use the 'contact us' part of a Web site to see if someone knows of the law of which you speak.
Practically speaking, I cannot imagine that it is a LAW passed by the city, since it would be nearly impossible to enforce. Who is going to know who has SGGS at home and is also drinking alcohol in the home?
Some legislative bodies pass resolutions, which merely state intent but do not have the force of law. This might be what was done. Also, perhaps it was a resolution passed by SGPC or Akal Takt management. I hope this helps you find your answer.
