Summary of Question:	Questions Regarding Surname

Ok this questions might seem way to wierd to most of you, but I have been noticing these things and thought if someone can shed some light on this. I have noticed many women with their last name as Singh instead of Kaur. It's not that I am offended or criticizing them for this, just want to know why they do it? And is it ok to have last name of Singh instead of Kaur??

Any thoughts to clear my doubts wold be appreciated..

There are some people who hold with a tradition that Singh was supposed to be the last name for all Sikhs - whether they are male or female - and so those woman call themselves Singh. It's OK. It's part of our vast and multi-faceted tradition.
