I have wondered about this for a long time, from the first time I heard this. What does sikhism is not a religion but a way of life mean exactly? And also, no offense to anyone here, how can people of other religions be sikhs also? I am a bit confused- I understand that if you are learning about life you are a sikh, but how can someone like a hindu be a sikh as well when in sikhism we say there is only one god and they believe in numerous gods? I have been confused about this for a while.

Lifestyle refers to the Rehit Marayada as given by Guru Gobind Singh ji.
You follow a daily code of conduct with Nitnem and dress code and action code etc. No other religion has this intense spiritual practice and accountability for the lay person. There are no priests because our relationship is direct with the Guru through our practice and our devotion.

When you take Baptism as an Amritdhari Sikh you are a Khalsa. You cannot be a Hindu or a jew or a Christian anymore.

The only confusion is with the people who say that there is such a thing as a Hindu Sikh.
