Summary of Question:How Could A Holy Book Be A Guru?

All over the world in the Sikh preachings I hear only one thing -- guru manyo granth (accept the granth as your guru). I wonder why?

The very Sansikrit word guru means that one thatleads from darkness to light. For thousands of years before Nanak, Hindus had acknowledged only a living personal gurus bonafide to lead them to ultimate goal of self realization. Their gurus helped them personally by the wisdom of Vedas (equally honoured by Sikh Gurus) and their individualized guidance.

Before the invention of paper and ink our seers accurately memorized Vedas - the Word of God. I believe the earliest time when the Vedas were put in text form were some 5,000 years ago by Vyas when he spoke and Lord Ganesh wrote it down. No where any Hindu including Nanak asked the Vedas to be accepted in any way as guru.

Then how can a deaf person be denied salvation in his life time which is possible in one life time alone?

The 'book' is not the Guru. The Gurbani is the Guru. This light of the Guru was passed on to the SGGS by the tenth Master so that all could experience the power and light of the Guru. All can sing and recite and read and understand and absorb themselves into the Gurbani and feel the power of this sound current we call Guru.

God bless you,
SKKK
