Sat sri akal,

As I was searching through your forum archives ( I was trying to find something about beauty pageants and what sikhi thinks about it) I encountered a older question about makeup and the person that replyed to it said it covered up your soul and made u look dirty. Now im not saying anything about wether u should or should not wear it, as i think it is personal preference ( obviously the person that answered does not like it very much), but i was wondering about the wedding day, if god hates makeup as much as the person that answered that question ( it seemed as if he/ she was implying so), then is it alright to wear it on your wedding day. I understand that everyone has personal preferences, but in the light of gods commandments, what does he say about it? I think it honestly shouldnt matter, but i wanted to inquire further into this. Guru Rakha

REPLY:
This is my personal opinion based on my understanding of the Guru's teachings. First of all, I wouldn't say that God 'hates' anything.
Secondly, God is not concerned with our physical appearance (He made us as we are) but with our actions and our Spirits. If someone is wearing makeup out of insecurity, that's sad and it's not what Sikhs are about. If someone is wearing it out of attachment to Maya, that's also sad and not what Sikhi is about. Guru teaches us not to be concerned with worldly things like what people think of us and whether we are pleasing other people or not. Guru teaches us only to be concerned with doing those things that make us beautiful in God's court; those things that are true to our Soul. Guru also teaches us not to waste time doing things other than loving God.
No Sikh should be judging anyone as good or bad, but makeup does seem to be a waste of time in the bigger picture.
