Sat Siri Akaal. Guru gave us bani, bana, simran and seva as four pillars of Sikhi and as a technology for living as Gursikhs. While I think that any spiritual practice helps one deal with their problems from a point of spiritual strength, the reverse is not exactly true. Living as Sikh is much more than only practicing nitnaym. It is convenient to blame your problems on not keeping nitnaym, but I think the issue is deeper than that, and gets into karms and patterns of dealing with others/problems that can create rather than resolve karma.

Siri Guru tells us over and over that all the ills of our life and mind can be resolved by meditation on the Naam. This does not mean that our lives will cease to present challenges. It DOES mean that our RESPONSE to those challenges will be from a point of sahej (balance and neutrality) and compassion, rather than from our emotional response. Additionally, one who keeps the Naam lives by dharm rather than karm. This is to say your life will change and your karms will resolve (without so much direct experience of them) because of practice of the Naam. This is what is meant by living dharm not karm.

I would suggest that you look at your life and first of all decide if keeping spiritual discipline is important to you. Nitnaym is part of our practice, but so is Naam Simran (By which I mean chanting the Naam daily, regularly, and for a while). The choice is yours, Veerji.

Guru ang sang,
DKK
