Summary of Question:I Like A Boy...
Category:General Sikhism
Date Posted:Wednesday, 12/29/2004 11:47 AM MST

I am 17 years old, and living in the US. I like a boy who I have never met. He isn't Sikh, in fact he is a white New Zealander. I know it isnt right to like him, and that you will probably suggest that I take my mind off of such useless things.

The problem is that I dont have many friends where I live and that I have known him for several years. I dont completely trust him in any way, and I'm sure he is manipulating me just as much as I am lying to him. Basically, we've told each other that we love each other ( a blatant lie ) and we plan to meet up when I began university. Of course, this isnt going to happen as a ticket from NZ to NY is around $2800 USD.

I am living a lie and I am trying to escape it. I speak to him through MSN Messenger, and I try to ignore him but its nearly impossible when you dont have anyone to speak to...

What should I do?

Well then, you don't really 'like a boy' per the name of your post. If you are lying when you say you love him, then the FIRST thing to do is change your email address and stop contacting him.
The SECOND thing you should do is trust your intuition that he is manipulating you too. And LISTEN to your intuition. If you do, you will stop this silly game.
The THIRD thing to do is get yourself out of your little hole. Why don't you have friends where you live? What are you looking for? I cannot tell if you are in school or not, but perhaps you should get involved in extracurricular activities with your school, a favorite sport or debate club or chess club, etc. This is a great way to make friends.
If you are NOT in school, start volunteering. There is ALWAYS a need for capable hands and minds in the various organizations that serve the needs of others. This is a very Sikh thing to do, if you are Sikh. It is a great way to meet people of all kinds and to make friends.
The FOURTH thing to do, if you are Sikh, is get involved in your local gurdwara community. if there isn't one, check the Gurdwara listing link on the Sikhnet homepage and search it out for your area. If that doesn't work, join or START a meditation class where you chant the naam with others.
Stop complaining, Ji, and start living. Guru ang sang,
-DKK
