i was just wondering why god is reffered to "him" or "he" in many punjabi to english translations of many sikh religious scriptures when in sikhism it clearly states that, unlike most religions, god is not a being.

Sat Siri Akaal. The English language is limited. We have no pronouns for Supreme Being that are separate from him/he, she/her, or It. Seems to be a general resistance to referring to the supreme being as It. In reality, the Creator is Him-Her-It or He-She-It. Creator contains all that is the universe, which is both with and without gender.
Also, Siri Guru Granth is revelations of the experience of that Being as experienced by the authors (Gurus and Bhagats). Their experience of that Being perhaps came through as 'he' or 'him'--which is not meant to suggest limitation by any means! Meditate on the Naam and find out for yourself. Guru ang sang,
