Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Congratulations on your conscious decision to grow your kesh!

Your question is what this youth forum is all about. Perhaps reading the many posts/replies on Turban, Hair, and Sikh practices will give you information to help YOU keep Khalsa spirit alive within the youthful Sikh community.

You might tell Indians/Sikhs this: "I keep my hair because I like how it makes me feel: I feel like a son of Guru, who gave me the gift of kesh. Why do you CUT your hair?" TURN the question around. These folks are uncomfortable that you do not conform or look like they do. They think you should worry more about how you look and whether girls like you than being Sikh. The path of Khalsa is not easy; we walk the edge of the sword, always.

You are right, the questions ARE tiresome. I have had this experience personally. The other thing you should do is look for young keshdhari Sikhs who become part of your circle. It is easier to be who you are with the support of at least a couple others who believe as you do. Also, a neutral mind will give you strength to encourage Khalsa spirit and deflect the questions. And the way to attain and maintain your neutral mind is to practice Naam Simran. This will also give you strength of purpose and spirit to continue your life as Khalsa.

Guru ang sang,
