Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru Ji ki fateh

Before i proceed, i would like to congratulate the sikhnet Q&A Commitee for the job well done.
Well..I'm in my early 20's .Me and my cousin sis are going to take amrit at the Golden Temple come year 2004. The thing is i leave in a modern style now where i have short and colured hair...I planned to keep long hair..but is it wrong to colour my hair when i be an amartari ? Also...I did read your articles on meditation. You did post about quiet and mantra meditation..I've tried out total silence meditation but my mind has been wondering everywhere and at times i think of some nonsence issues. How do i handle this ?
Thank you very much for your guidance.May Waheguru bless all of us.

Kiran

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.

Well, Guru is with you and it's a great step to take Amrit. Part of what Amrit involves is a commitment to live just as God made you to live - on the inside as well as the outside. It's about committing to your originality, your purity, your genuineness. You want to just be you, nothing more than that, and nothing less. So - God gave you a certain color of hair - live the purity of it - let it be what it is, and understand this isn't a denial of something, but a celebration of how beautiful you are as God's creature.

As for meditation. It takes a great amount of discipline to sit in total silence and truly have a meditative experience because the mind does like to wander. Meditation trains us to hold the mind and focus it on our own hearts which, the Guru teaches us, is where God lives. Chanting and singing opens the heart and keeps the mind from wandering everywhere. Choose a shabd or a chant that has a special lesson in it - something you really feel connected to, something that you need to learn, and chant or sing while maintaining a good meditative posture and presence of self. See how that goes for you.

May Guru continue to guide your every step.

All love.
