Summary of Question:Sikh Generation Today

Not being exposed to the Indian/Sikh way of life for most of my life and now slowly getting involved, I am throughly shocked to see what kind of community the sikhs live in. Lying, being deceitful, looking down on others because of their caste and not being tolerant of anything, seems to be the norm in sikh society today.

These people go to the gurdwara and sit there and listen to the holy man read from the holy book. Yet when they leave the gurdwara, they go back to their backwards life.

Our parents generation that came over from India some 40 years ago, still live in a bygone era that no longer exists. Their mindset is still of an India some 40 years back that no longer exists. They don't fit into life in the western world and don't fit into life back in India. For the past 40 years, India has moved on ten fold, but our folks still live back in the India of the 1960's.

Then they have kids in the western world and try to influence their way of thinking onto their kids. How many people out there have been introduced to a potential marriage partner, only to find out that the other person's parents have done nothing but lie about their son/daughter. If kids are being raised in this life of watching their folks lie, they're going to grow up doing the same too.

I have seen to many girls my generation really messed up emotionally, because of the screwed up morales their parents have put into them. Instead of teaching their kids what life is all about, how to control your finances, look after a house etc. All they go on about is education and caste. How about giving your kids an education on life, not an education on nonsense!!

It's very scary to sit there and watch kids go on about nothing but being jatt. What exactly is being jatt all about? Being narrow minded and ignorant? Then these people will implant the exact backwards mindset into their kids to. As each generation comes about, it's supposed to be more forward thinking and more tolerant thamn the last. It seems like the sikh community is just going backwards.

As a sikh, I really do find the thought of marrying another sikh quite dis-tasteful. Seems like the girls out there don't think twice about being compulsive liars and sleeping around with every guy they can get their hands on. They have been totally ignored by their parents, in favour of their sons and then wonder why their daughters either run away with white guys, or come home pregnent.

Whats wrong with sikh people today?

Wahe Guru Ji ka Khalsa,
Wahe Guru Ji ki Fateh!

Thank you for your observations. I know they come from your heart. Let go of your fear and channel your anger into action. Each of us has to pay our karmas and what you can do is set an example through your own life and your own actions. Keep an open heart and keep up. With a life of dharma, karma goes. Between a Sikh and his Guru is just a matter of time. Guru Ji draws us to him. There is no holy book. We have a living Guru in the Shabd Guru of Siri Guru Granth Sahib. Just let him open your heart.

All love in divine, .....G
