Siri Guru says not to be attached to wealth and jewels. That the real jewels are the jewels of the mind touched by Naam, nothing that you adorn yourself with.
No jewelry is allowed to be worn by anyone being baptized during the Amrit ceremony. There are those Amritdhari Sikhs who believe that once you are baptized, you must not wear ANY jewelry (except perhaps a simple wedding band). There are other Amritdharis who do not subscribe to this practice. Guru Gobind Singh encouraged his Sikhs to dress royally: the turban was part of this. (At that time in India, only royals wore turbans.) One could argue jewelry is also about looking royal.
I might add that some people find that once they have taken Amrit jewelry ceases to interest them, though this doesn't necessarily happen overnight.
