Waheguru Ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ke fateh,
A member of my family is having great difficulty sleeping. They have been subscribed sleeping pills to help them sleep but they only allow them to sleep for about 6 hours a say this problem has been going on for 6 months.
Is there any natural remedies that you know of that will help them with their sleeping problem.
Could you also tell me any things that they can do to help them sleep?

There are three reasons why sleep may be difficult:
First, the mind is overactive with worry. In that case the person needs to meditate before bed. There is a particular meditation for this. It is called "Shabd Kriya."
- Sit with straight spine. Hands relaxed and resting in lap left over right, palms up. Eyes 9/10ths closed and focus at tip of nose.
- Inhale in 4 parts, mentally repeating SA-TA-NA-MA and then hold the breath whilst repeating the mantra 4 times silently.
- Exhale in 2 parts, mentally chanting WAHE GURU.
- Repeat for 11-31 minutes.
The second reason is that the body has too much energy. Then one needs to get up and exercise until one feels tired. then lie in bad and do left nostril breathing by lying on right side and blocking the right nostril with arm or pillow.
The third reason is a hormonal imbalance. Then one needs to see a doctor who specialises in sleep conditions.
The best natural herbal remedy for sleep and relaxation is Valerian extract. 10-30 drops in warm water.
