The question i want to ask is on kismat(destiny). I have heard some say that what you reap you will sow. On the other hand I have heard some people say that nothing is in your hands what is going to happen is going to happen. If it is true that what is going to happen is going to happen does that not kill motivation to study hard, go to the gym, etc. However, I guess if you look at it from a certain point of view one could say that you are made up of a certain genetic makeup and will turn out to be however society and environment treats you. Others say that part of your destiny has been prewritten, but you cannot sit with your hands folded you must make an effort by yourself. Does this mean that a certain amount of your destiny, such as 80% has been prewritten and the rest is in your hands?

By the law of karma, you will certainly reap what you sow. It is our karma that keeps us bound to the cycle of birth and death. By living the dharma given to us by the Guru we can rid ourselves of our past karma.

On the other hand I have heard some people say that nothing is in your hands what is going to happen is going to happen.
Everything that happens is by God's will. But the way you live your life is by your will. Your situation is God's will. How you deal with your situation is your will.

You enter this life with your karma, your destiny, and your fate. If you live with dharma, you will realize your highest destiny. If you live with karma, you will face your worst fate.

If you sit idly by and dismiss everything as God's will, as pre-written, you will never realize your destiny. A Sikh faces each day with courage and compassion, working hard to uplift others. Do not be attached to the results of your actions, however. You may work hard to achieve something, but the end result is always God's will. Your reward is the decrease in your karmic debt. Do not pray to God to remove challenges in your life, pray to God for the courage to face those challenges. With each challenge comes a new opportunity to face it with courage and grace and work off our own karmic debt.

Humbly,
Mangala Sadhu Sangeet Singh
