Summary of Question:About Karah Prashad
Category:Sikh Practices
Date Posted:Wednesday, 6/07/2000 4:01 AM MDT

We are running a small gurudwara in our locality and perform morning/evening paths/kirtan daily. All the activities are done by Sadh Sangat themselves. Could you kindly tell me that as per Guru Rahat Maryada (Gurmat Martand) and guidelines framed by Shromini Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Amritsar what are the important/necessary functions/ceremonies when Karah Prashad should be made or is it compulsory that we must have prashad daily? Kindly elloborate on this keeping in view the SGPC guidelines.

Your feedback will greatly help in solving this query and telling my sangat.
Thanks
IPS Sethi

All full gatherings of the Sadh Sangat, kirtan programs should have the prasaad that I believe you are referring to (prasaad made by cooking the flour & Ghee & sugar).

If you cannot, then use nuts, raisins or the sugar cakes...patasis.

The food that is offered to the Guru and the Sadh Sangat is prasaad. The special pudding or halvah should be made fresh. It is ideal to have this at all gatherings. It does not need to be sitting around in the Gurdwara if there is no function. That is when the dry prasaad is best to be available for the individual visitors that come to the Guru to "mata tek" etc.

The best you can do is to make sure that there is always some form of prasaad that is available from the Guru. Be practical, this is a practical way of life to serve and uplift with love and grace.
