Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

i am not amritdhari yet, but i hope to take amrit at a later point in my life.
i do listen to paat, and even though i cannot read panjabi very well, i cannot read directly from the Sri Guru Granth Sahib but I do understand spoken panjabi though.

I was wondering if one could read directly from the SGGS if they do not have a turban. I have tried having a turban and i liked it but my father didnt like the idea of me turning to sikhi mainly because members of my indirect family have been involved in the Khalistan 'effort' so i had to cut my hair.

also, could you tell me the meaning of Kalgi Jujhar Di--- i downloaded an MP3 with this title very recently but i do not know the meaning.

May the guru be with you.

Dear Harminder Singh:
You asked about Kalgi Jujhar Di. Jujhar was one of Guru Gobind S son and Kalgi is turban pin put on top of turban and Di means of. So it means Turbin Pin of Jughar Singh.

Dear Harminder Singhji:

Sat Siri Akal. Brother, any sincere attempt you make to read and understand Gurbani serves your spirit and your soul. As long as you cover your head, you can read from Siri Guru Granth Sahib. (It is also appropriate to cover your head when listening to paat or Gurbani outside of Gurdwara.) Headcover can be a scarf of some kind, such as a piece of turban type cloth tied once around head so it stays on. It has to cover the crown of your head, it does not necessarily have to cover all your hair.

I hope some day you will be able to wear a turban in dignity and grace.
Guru Rakha
