Summary of Question: | Covering Head In School |
Category: | Turban |

I am 14 years old and will be taking Amrit soon which Guru Maharaj's kirpa. Next year I will be going to a Christian high school. The school policies are that you cannot have your head covered. Do we have to keep our head covered the whole time? I have always wanted to wear a turban, but cannot in school. Is it okay if I start wearing one after high school? -Jaspreet Kaur
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
Sat Nam. I am wondering if your and your parents have made an effort to meet with the school principal, or the School Board and explain that keeping our heads covered, and especially wearing a turban is an article of faith for Sikhs? (Perhaps refer them to the SikhNet website for more detail?) I am also wondering why you are going to a Christian school? Where do you live: what city, what country?? Some countries have laws against discrimination, however, a private school does have more authority to determine its dress code. I do congratulate you on your wisdom in planning to receive the blessing of taking Amrit! May God bless you and Guru guide you in everything you do. Always! SP
