Waheguru ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru ji Ki Fateh

Sat sri akaal. I have recently become amritdhari but I am originally from an English/white family. I was just wondering if it is ok to recite my banis/panth in English whilst i am trying to learn Panjabi in the mean time?

It is important to understand the Guru's word, so if you don't understand Gurmukhi then it is good to read the banis in English. However, the Guru's word is truly understood with the heart, not with the head. If you can learn to read Gurmukhi, even if you don't understand it, when you recite the banis in Gurmukhi then you are speaking as the Gurus spoke which can help you to elevate your own consciousness to a higher level. While trying to learn Gurmukhi you may find it useful to read transliterations (Gurmukhi words written in the English alphabet) .

Humbly,
Mangala Sadhu Sangeet Singh
