Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Why is it that everytime I ask anyone a question I always get the same answer: Don't ask why, just have faith. Well, much of my faith has to do with the "WHY" part of everything...
As long as I'm human I will continue to question everything I wish to know about and will keep asking until I get an answer other than "God Did It".
Ultimately God did do it, but that's not why I asked, the reason I ask is to find out something I don't know...I'm not talking about general questions, I'm talking about taking what SGGS says deeper than a literal level, applying what we know from science into our interpretation. I believe god has given us science so that we can figure out what happens in the world around us with physical and mathematical evidence. I'm not saying SGGS is'nt right, please don't get me wrong...I'm simply saying that science is the method we as humans use to better our own understanding of the physical universe. It may seem cloudy now, with all these predictions and theories, but were still working on it...the ultimate goal of science is to have a single eqeuation which governs the whole universe...Guru Nanak and many b4 him told us this a long time ago, the answer is God...of course, this is just one example. I guess what I'm trying to say is that SGGS gives answers and Science provides the details...sound alright?

please share your thoughts...

Dear Lotus,

If you want to find something you dont know then do a Sahaj Path. Everyday you read from the SGGS until you feel that you dont want to anymore. Eventually you will finish it. Not only will your knowledge of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib increase tremendously but all of the things that you wish get out of it will be answered in their own ways.

If you are bothered by what people say when they say faith I dont blame you. Not only are you young but you are obviously incredibly inquisitive. Maybe it has not occured to you though that there isnt an answer to everything. You just go through life trying to live it to the best of your ability. The people you are asking may not want to answer your questions, they might not even have the answers. I dont know if you are out to prove that God didnt do "it" or whether you are just bothered by the fact that this is what some people believe, but wouldnt it be more productive to you to not let it bother you. Some of us dont care how this all came into existence we just want to enjoy it. What are you so concerned about.? If God was a clock and you took him apart and found that he was just dials and electricity and gears would that make any difference? The one thing that a Human Being cannot live without is Hope. Take it away and it is all Gone and that is the equation of God ( at least for me ). Hope is the driving force. Imagine if there was no hope. We wouldnt have children we wouldnt work we wouldnt eat we wouldnt do anything. That is the reason we have suicide, people give up hope. God is a source of longing and hope and faith in him /her/it helps people to carry on. Even those that dont believe directly in God still run on hope. I hope you will get your answers quickly so that you may enjoy what you dont need to understand......Life. It just happens. It's like a war. Once Napoleon said that he made large and complicated plans for a battle. He also said that he threw them out the window as soon as it started. Life has a way of doing things you just dont expect. So you go along for the ride. Somethings will go your way and others wont.

Many people in this place realize they have no control over life. Sure you have control over some things and they work out great, I'm not trying to suggest that we have no power to change things or even ourselves. But there is something bigger than us. There is an energy and a purpose to it all. And trying to find out what it is is as pointless as taking apart a completely great working clock. ( unless of course that is the profession you want to be in )

I'm also not contending that Scientists are wasting their time. They believe in what they are doing and that it is the right thing to do. Where it concerns them they are probably right. Things are just what they are. Life consists of too much to be constantly making concrete judgements. You have to be ready to adapt. You have to find what works for you, and be accepting of what works for other people, within certain boundaries.

I also wanted to answer your whole Rock and Roll and Tattoos question. Definetley think it is cool that you play in Band. I hope you have really given up all the drugs they are really a silly thing to do to yourself. As far as Tattooos go if you want one go ahead and get one. But you are going to have to realize as you get older and change you are going to have to deal with the fact that you might not want that tattoo anymore. Piercing is something that I dont like on a personal level ( this is just my opinion of course ) the Sikh Rehit Maryada also mentions that they are not allowed.

As far as whether or not all of this stuff will effect your own spirituality is a question you will have to answer yourself. Of course it will. How we perceive ourselves and our self image has a lot to do with how we deal with things. You will have to decide whether it will be positive or negatively.

Keep It Up. Keep questioning. find out what you believe and go that way. thanks
