Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh

My sister recently went to india and brought back a kirpan for me to wear although i am not amritdhari. Is it wrong to wear a kirpan without having taken the amrit. My mother was not very happy and said that it should not be worn without having taken amrit. No one in my family is amritdhari.
Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh.

The short answer is yes, provided it is worn with an attitude of loving kindness for all beings, within the deepest sense of humility before God and Guru. If you adopt it, it will bring certain challenges into the way you conduct yourself in your dealings with people. You must rely on the Guru and His Grace for resolving any and all challenges gracefully. That is the essence of Khalsa, whether you have received the Amrit formally, or not.

Many blessings to you as you discover your relationship with Guru Sahib, and with yourself.

Humbly,
Krishna Singh Khalsa
