Why was this religion called Sikhism? Was there a reason?

(REPLY) Sat Nam. (That means "Truth is your identity" and "GOd's Name is Truth." ) Those people who studied and followed the teachings of Guru Nanak, his "students," and the word for student is SHISHYA. This word evolved into the term "SIKH" denoting those who studied Truth as he revealed it and the way of living he taught. Thus the religion that grew out of his teachings, and those of all his successors, is often called "Sikhism." SP
