Dear One. In the time of the Gurus' once a father made a promise that he would only marry his daughter to the Guru.
One such promise was made and Mata Sahib Kaur was given to Guru Gobind Singh as a wife after he was already married. For this reason, Guru Gobind Singh made her Mata Sahib Kaur, mother of the Khalsa. Rather than taking another physical wife, he took her as a spiritual consort only.
The use of different names for each wife also lends to confusion that Guru had so many wives.
