i am very confused as to why sikhs cant cut there hair my hair is VERY long it is by my knees!!! At school my so called mates are always saying let it down. i am embarresed of my hair as it is so long. My friends hair is really short i feel so weird with it down and if i do have it down everyone stares!My mom told me that if we fall the guru can grab us by the hair and save us but if trimmed it what would be the difference. i hope you can reply as i am so confused.

Sat Siri Akaal. I would give my eyeteeth for hair down to my knees! Your hair must be gorgeous! So what if it's long. If you are male, you have a lion's (Singh's) mane. If you are female, you have the crown of a a princess (Kaur).

Sikhs don't cut any hair on their body, you can research this on this Forum looking at category "hair" but I want you to consider that hair such as yours is a gift from Guru, and you should treasure every strand. You could wear it with PRIDE, if people are going to stare. More importantly, ignore the stares and act as if nothing is going on. Or think of your hair as a SHIELD from all the stares and walk tall like the son or daughter of Guru Gobind Singh that you are.

They stare NOT because they think you are weird but because hair as long as yours is not so very common and is wonderful to behold. Be proud of this gift Guru gave you, and take very good care of it.

WHen your mates ask you to take your hair down, ignore the question and ask them if they would do for you something that embarrasses them for you, such as put their shoes on the wrong feet. What they need to understand is that your hair and body are yours and that it is unkind to forcefully draw attention to such things when it makes the other uncomfortable.
