Wjkk wjkf,

I was watching the discovery channel on TV the other day and they brought up the Cancer... it came to me that many people diganosed with cancer take Kemo Therapy which makes the person have a loss of hair. If a Sikh person were to have cancer... would it be against Sikhism to recieve Kemo therapy? I am just asking this question as a disscussion topic, I do not have cancer.

Sat Sri Akal,

No, it is not against Sikhism to receive Kemo Therapy. It is only when one cuts his or her hair willfuly that it is considered wrong. When receiving therapy of any sort, the reason is to cure oneself of a disease, if an effect of that therapy is loss of hair then that is unfortunate. However, since loss of hair was not an intentional action, it is not wrong.

Similarly, if one has a head injury and the only way to fix it is to remove some hair, then that is not wrong either since the primary purpose is not to cut hair, but to be healed.

Gur Fateh,
HSD
