Dear:

I read your question in sikhnet and wasnt happy to read that.
You know the best and best parcharak for children are thier parents ie you.
Even if the amritdhari's in gurudwara are fighting, they will suffer themself but dont ever compare it with guru's amrit.
For being a sikh the first rehat is taking amrit of guru gobindh singh maharaj.
if you dont take amrit you are not a sikh. Its just like if a student doesnt take addmission in a school, how can he be called a student.
Ok just tell me onething that even if your son is not good, is really in bad company, smokes, fights with people and moves according to your wishes, At the time of your end will you give all your property and earnings to neighbours son becoz he's good naaaaaaaaaah. So same are those people they are kids of guru ji, tommorow they can expect forgiveness from that almighty guru but what about we who didnt admitted ourself in his institue.
I know these are bitter words but just think on it. Isnt it necessary for us to take guru's amrit to be a sikh.
Really if you are asked by someone for amrit just thanks him and go for it and prove yourself to be better than those people.
Amrit shows u the right way to get united and meet guru and saves you from 5devils ie kaam, krodh, lobh, moh and ahankaar.
Go for it and be guruji's Khalsa.
Your kids will be lucky to have parents like you who will give them a perfect enviroment of seva and simran.
May god bless you

(REPLY) Sat Nam. The greatest blessings any Sikh can receive is to take Amrit. That is for sure. But each Sikh must decide that for him/her self, and it's something between each Sikh and her/his Guru. To say that someone who has not taken Amrit is not a Sikh is to negate all the Sikhs who lived before Guru Gobind Singh gave Amrit back in 1699! The terrible behavior you mention that has taken place by "Amritdhari" Sikhs is disgraceful, I agree. I'm not exactly sure what your point is, but of course, it is up to parents to do their best to teach values and virtues to their children, and inspire them take Amrit, but I do not believe anyone should ever be forced to take Amrit, it needs to be a conscious commitment. Because if it's not, and the person takes Amrit under pressure and then breaks the vow, they have to suffer the consequences, and so better that people take Amrit who understand and appreciate the great gift and privilege it is to receive Amrit.
