Sat Siri Akal.

Well - I am no student of Islam, but I am a student of Sikhi. So - remember Guru Nanaak taught that One God is behind every religion, that every religion should be respected, that the enemies are pride, greed, anger, attachment and lust and that God can be found in every temple. Religions are what they are. What is unfortunate is the prejudice that comes against other people because of religion, or the way religions can be twisted to excuse the most awful crimes against another human being. Every religion has some beautiful, fundmental truths at heart that, when lived, do bring people closer to God. So - what is the question you are really asking? My recommendation is that you do not classify people by what religion they belong to, but rather see them based on their own character and actions. There are good and bad people in every religion - and the good people will use their religion to support their good actions, while the bad people will use their religion to justify their harmful actions. As a Sikh, it is our duty, as per our Guru, to not get caught in the play of duality, of good and bad, but to rise above it, dwelling in the Word of God, surrendered, in love, to His Will.

That said, disrespect of women is prevalent in many cultures that practice many different religions. And, actually, except for Sikhism, there is no religion that teaches equality between men and women. So - be thankful you are a Sikh and pray for women who are subjected to disrespectful behavior and then told that religion is the reason they should keep silent and put up with it.

Hope this is helpful.

All love,

GPK
