Summary of Question:Gurus And Miracles
Category:Sikh History
Date Posted:Sunday, 6/06/2004 7:52 AM MDT

it is a fact that god gave his messegers the ability to perform miracles so that they may convince people that what they are revealing is truely the words from god, and also to help them through their trails. Moses separated the sea, jesus brought back the dead and mohammed sent enough water gushing from a small cup to suffice the ablution for 70 men.

Did any of the gurus experience miracles so that we could be sure that what they revealed was revealed from god.

Sat Siri Akaal. Sikhi has its share of miraculous stories, but Sikhs don't refer to them as miracles. If you check this and other Sikh websites you will find stories of each Guru and you can then draw your own conclusions.

The Sikh Gurus refused to invoke what miraculous powers they had for the sake of proving to others who they were. In fact, when the Mughal emperor insisted that Guru Tegh Bahadur prove himself by showing him a miracle, the Guru refused and for that his head was cut off. The Guru understood that Sikhs are not Sikhs because they can make a miracle, AND he understood that if he didn't stand up to the Emperor as a Sikh, then no one would ever be able to worship God as s/he sees fit.

I really think you need to read Sikh scripture, which you can find on this Sikhnet site. Understand that God is in all people, all things, all places, which is said over and over again in Siri Guru Granth Sahib. Since God is everywhere, why on earth would the Gurus need to prove they are divine, when they taught that everyone is divine? It is also important that you understand that the Guru of the 10 Sikh Gurus and ALL Gursikhs was and is Shabd Guru, the divine word, the sacred sound current. "Bani Guru Guru hai Bani." Guru is Bani and Bani is Guru. This is why naam simran is emphasized so much in Sikhi, because the way to know God is through personal practice of the Naam. It is a personal practice, not one that requires a person to intercede between the person and God. So stop worrying about the prophets and the Gurus and who is and isn't from God and sit down and chant the Naam and know your own Divinity from within.
Guru ang sang,
