(REPLY) Sat Nam. I am just now reading your posting, and I must tell you that there are millions of people who feel just the way you do! As for the food addiction, there are groups of people who join together, like alcoholics anonymous, I think it's called Overeaters Anonymous. You might try searching on the web. However, the core problem (for everyone) is self esteem; we have to start by loving ourselves, then loving others is easy! The first and most important thing to know and remember is that God loves you -- every time you inhale, that is a reaffirmation of God's presence in you! You are never alone. When/if you feel bad about yourself, start repeating ANG SANG WAHE GURU. That affirms the fact that God is in every cell, every joint of your body! No matter what problems or imperfections we may have (and none of us is perfect) the very essence of our being is divine, and that is the living God in you, and so we say, SAT NAM: Truth is your Identity/ Truth is God's Name. We often eat not because we're hungry, but to comfort ourselves. So, people with low self-esteem overeat, which makes them fat, and then they feel bad about themselves because they are fat, and then they eat more "comfort food." Positive affirmation is a big help in overcoming low self-esteem. Try this one every morning when you get up: "I am beautiful; my soul is bright and shining; my mind is clear and effective; my body is only as God wills; I am healthy, happy, and holy." Your subconscious mind will accept this as fact, and gradually, with repetition it will start to manifest on the surface! Are you reciting your banis every day? Remember, the way we feel is strongly affected by the ideas that we "eat" (everything we see and hear now and in the past) and so start your day -- before you take any physical food -- by taking in the powerful Words of the Guru, begin with Japji Sahib, and especially recite Jaap Sahib, to reinforce the reality of yourself as a strong and worthwhile person. Thes Gurus gave us the Nitnem to nourish our spiritual selves, so, if that is your aspiration, just immerse yourself in Guru's bani. You can read Siri Guru Granth Sahib on the SikhNet website, if you do not have access to volumes with English translation elsewhere. May God and Guru bless you, SP
