Hi there,

Just to say, the condition that you are describing of someone sitting on top of you is called 'sleep paralysis'.I've had it in the past and I won't be surprised if i expereince it again.

It occurs when part of you is in a subconscious state, while asleep and it is accompanied by hallucinations e.g. heavy footsteps, a horrendous sound ringing in the ears, sense of a demonic presence, the seeing of orbs (these are balls of blue/ white light, within the room and a large powerful demonic creature sitting on top of you, and you feel their weight against your chest.

This thing is known to be hereditary, and I therefore recommend you to talk to your family about it. There may be a possibility that one of your parents or siblings may have experienced it. It is more common in men than women, and 45% of the male population claim to have experienced it. And one can go on experiencing it for quite some time, some people have it for years.

Some people closely associate with superstition that you may be a victim of black magic. But our Sikhi strongly condemns such superstituous beliefs and we must not fall into the path of such superstituous beliefs, and that we should remeber WaheGuru at all times.

Scientists say that it is a physiological problem and is associated with stress, and when going through a difficult times.

All I can say is not to hesitate in asking your family, and meditate, reciting Wahe Guru's prayers. Hopefully it would bring you some comfort and help you tackle this problem. Try looking up on the internet for 'Sleep Paralysis', Google search engine helps you find good sites on it.

Thank you for this explanation of something I too have experienced. I would also add from personal experience that it can occur when one is not, generally, sleeping well or enough, which is a major stress, in and of itself. So one potential means of rectifying this paralysis is sleeping aids (as recommended by a medical practitioner). Guru ang sang,
