I also saw this movie last month and had the same reaction. I was also educated in India and realized how little attention was paid to Sikh martyrs in stark contrast to Gandhi and Nehru. We indeed need to educate ourselves of our own history and then try to incorporate as much as possible into the curriculum at schools. Unfortunately, the focus of Sikh leadership in India or abroad is more on political power than on education and enlightenment. We can do our part through camps and retreats and youth movements and initiatives. If you can bring this up in your area of influence and try to make people see the reality of our historical sacrifices, you will have done a great job. And even if people don't agree with you right away, don't get discouraged because it can take a lot of time for people to undo the learning that has been heaped over them for generations. Thanks for bringing this up!

two days back i saw a movie..Shaheed uddham singh.after watching the movie i realized how ignorant i was of sikh sacrifices durin indias fight for independence or even before when the sikh gurus fought against the mughal empire to save the hindus.Udhham singh or even bhagat singh kept fighting for the country's independence but finally when Uddham singh was charged with the murder of Michael o dwyer, the late governor of punjab at the time of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre & also the man behind the conspiracy ,uddham singh was labelled "mad" by mahatma gandhi.
my point here is ..i did my high school in india..and throughout school in all my history books the maximum our martyrs got was a line or two whereas mahatma gandhi & jawaharlal nehru were glorified to the skies.im sure they deserved it but so did these men.
so should'nt we as sikhs try to create awareness of the sacrifices made by these great men , otherwise how will the future generations know & feel proud of their ancestors.
we keep going around in circles by askin questions like why cant we cut our hair etc..but shouldnt we all involve ourselves in spreading these heroic deeds of our gurus.the biggest problem is i dont even know how we can do that.
i would really appreciate it if you e-mail me personally and tell a way to go about it.
