Dear Gurjeet K--
Naam Simran is a form of meditation. All meditation works to varying degrees to stabilize the mind and clear the subconcious thoughts, with a long-term result being the 'sahej' so often described in Siri Guru Granth Sahib. 11 minutes is the MINIMUM amount of time for (most)meditation to BEGIN to have an effect on the mind/subconcious. Of course, I'm speaking at a time, e.g., 11 minutes EACH time one sits down to practice, not 11 minutes a week OR month or some such thing.
The longer you meditate, the better. 31 minutes is an IDEAL amount of time to really get into the practice, and it really sets yourself for your day. But if you are just starting out, then start with 11 minutes and build the time daily. My OWN experience is that the first 11 minutes I get all my shifting and jitters over with and my body/mind 'settles' into to what I am doing, so that the additional 20 or so minutes is where the real shift happens.
Guru rakha,
