Fundamentals of the Mind

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh!

I'd like to share with you today the fundamentals of the mind. In my personal experience, having lived over half a century, and I have seen people very unhappy. It is not that I want people unhappy. I have seen people are very unhappy. And naturally when a person deals with people, he asks first one thing: "Why people are unhappy? There has to be a reason." They eat, they live, they clothe themselves, but with all this, people are unhappy. Then you ask a direct question. The difference between an animal and a human is a very simple difference. Animal cannot rationalize his pleasure and his pain. Human can. Animal cannot postpone his commotions or his neuroses, or any such action. Human can.

Actually, if you want to understand a factual thing, animal is better than human, because he is so intuitive about his environments and he is so alert about his survival... Human is not. That's why human built defenses... houses, castles, armies, armament, atom bombs... all that power to protect which human mind developed is because human knows that it cannot protect itself. Human knows that it has no intuition. And without intuition it is worse than an animal. It has no capacity, it has no gradual God-given capacity to protect himself because he has no horns, no hooves, no power to kick, no power to run. Then human started developing trip called, "Sex Trip." And sex trip is that sensuality and sexuality was used and it became one tribe will conquer the other tribe, kill all his men or make them slaves. Take all the women, and make them slaves and use them and abuse them. Sensuality and sexuality became human tools to go and conquer and rule and take a superiority.

But human knew that the animal is better than a human because an animal will come in heat. Once in a while on a certain day and in a certain rhythm it has certain discipline. Human doesn't. Human has no discipline. When human became totally blinded by the sexuality, sensuality, manipulation and everything, then it realized it doesn't work. And thing has gone from time to time and this blindness has gone from centuries to centuries but there's no solution to it.

You know how many religions are there? A lot. You know how many holy men are there? A lot. But in all religions and in all holy men, you will find a hole which you cannot fulfill, because there are nine holes in your body and if you do not know which comes in and goes out, you are done. There's no thought about it. There's no virtue about it. And you don't have a control over it. You have no virtuous control over yourself. You don't have a virtual development of your intuition. And over and above you have no relationship with your mind.

After we finish this, we will read, "Eh man meriaa too sadaa raho har naale." "Oh my mind, remain with God." We'll read that. Guru says that, "Oh my mind, remain with God." This is the Guru's dictate. But our mind is not with us, so how can we keep our mind with God? How many of you are not the victim of your mind? Your mind decides what is good and what is bad. You don't. Your mind tells you what is comfortable and what is not.

You go to Hardwar, you'll find these yogis sleeping on a bed of nails, showing people that a bed of nails is very comfortable. To them it is. If you wake them up, those nails don't go into their body. It's a practice, it's a discipline. And I met one yogi like that and he was very friendly and highly educated. And I said, "Why you do this?" He said, "Just to tell people that if you practice your discipline, even nails cannot go into the body." I said, "What about the thoughts? Thoughts are stronger than nails."

Meditation is to control thoughts, because thought is the power. God is a thought until realized. If you do not realize God, God is just a thought. If you do not dedicate and get to the dictate of the Guru, Guru is a thought. Everything is a thought until it is not experienced. So as a human being you are just a thought. You look like a human being, you have legs, you have arms, you have capacity to attack and get attacked. You have capacity to work and not work. But your mind is not human because human mind is that mind which has an applied, consolidated and purified wisdom: Gurmat. Consolidated, crystallized wisdom. Raw wisdom is of no use. Layman theory is not workable. It has to be tested, consolidated, worked out, seasoned and perfect. Less than that, life is a game... your life!

There are 250 million Americans and there are 560 million animals in America. So put it together, it is 7 or 8 million some Americans. You mean to say, eagle has less respect than you? Not true. So basically you have to understand, you do not even consider the animals, the ants and the worms and the fishes as the population. You live off them. They are part of your environments, surroundings. They are your friends and they are your enemies. A snake bites you and a bird chirps with you and makes you happy. And forget about that...look at the flowers. A rose has a season. Rose has a fragrance. Rose has an identity. You don't! You have no fragrance. For ten minutes you are beautiful and then your mind freaks out. You are the dirtiest of all. You have no value. You have no season. Yesterday you were a friend, today you are an enemy. You have no trust, no logic, no identity, no security, nothing.

Everybody knows when the rose will blossom. Nobody knows when you will blossom. No, the one who slept with you last night, in the morning did not know that you will get up as a blossom. You can get up like a stinking thing, who knows? You wished somebody good night last night. This morning you said, "Hello." He said, "What? Who are you?"

Now these kind of human characterisitics do not make one human. Actually the vegetables are more ashamed of you than themselves. The flowers are more mad at you than themselves. You have polluted their environment... you have polluted their environment to the extent that they can't even exist. You have gone way out. You have changed their basic species. You have put chemicals into them because you won't let anything live original. Because you are not original. Because you are not human. You are plastic. You will change everything.

You know, for centuries we have been fighting with a simple thing: God gave us a beard and we shave it off. I mean, a simple thing. Why you go to find out, fight with God? Nobody fights with God. Everybody fights early in the morning. Either every man on the earth shall write a petition to God, "We don't want beard, get rid of it, God, forget about it. What the hell you are doing to us?" Or... keep it!

I went once and met a very very spiritual man. Extremely spiritual. And I wanted to discuss with him and he said, "Look. On this subject I am weak." So I said, "All right."

Once I had a chance to meet Mahatma Ghandi in a very private environments. He was in Delhi and he came to Harijan Colony. That Harijan Colony was very near to our college and we were supposed to volunteer to do protection and all that and I happened to sit down with him and I asked Mahatma Ghandi myself. I said, "Mahatma Ji, I want to know, you are such a humble God-recognized and realized person, why YOU shave you hair or beard?" He said, "Bad habit." I mean, he was a very straight-forward man. That part I like. He said, "You Sikhs know that I have a bad habit." I said, "I am not asking this question to you as a Sikh." He said, "Then as a yogi you should know." And I looked very surprised that both aspects of mine he knew. And that kind of informal talk was not possible... so many people met him in a day. And I used to meet him in those days very often in one way or the other. But his first answer was, "Bad habit." And then he very politely said, "Don't ask me further or to change it."

Sometimes we make it a habit to live with our habit. Sometimes...I'm saying a very heavy word....sometimes we make a habit to live with our habit. And when we make a habit to live with our habit, then we don't want to change it. Then we make excuses. Then we need to go to a psychologist, psychiatrist, to friends. Then we need shoulders to cry on, because once a human makes a habit to live with a habit, that human is done. Because to break a habit pattern, you need mind. To need your mind, you need sadhana. You are never weak. Money cannot make you strong. Walls and forts and armies cannot make you strong. Friends and beauty cannot make you strong. Your projection and power, your occult powers, 18, 16, 19, ALL that, WHOLE process can never make you strong! Your strength is in your mind. It is not even in your body. Mind over body can sometimes turn the body to realize what it has to do. It can carry the last few steps further.

But your mind is not your friend. You have to deal with negative, positive and neutral mind. You... majority of you, do not know there is a neutral mind. Yeah. You know who you are? What you listen to... what you see and what you read, you believe. But you read the Guru, you listen to the Guru, you are with the Guru, you bow to the Guru, and you don't believe it! For you it is a ritual. No, my dear, it is a reality! The word of the Guru, Shabad Guru, the word of the Guru, shall come true through every test. Because a spiritual teacher is a spiritual teacher. It is the spirit, it is the essence and the basis of your life. It is not something which you temporarily can deal. It is permanent... more permanent than you were, you are, or you shall be. Word will remain, but you may not. Your mental actions may personify into physical action. Your physical action may personify in your weakness. They may personify in your strength. You may look like you are an angel, you are a
god, you may look like you are stupid and you are worthless. Beyond that you are you.

Your introduction to word that you are a good man is equally dangerous as somebody's introduction as a bad man. Because you are looking for the good and somebody's looking for the bad. Neither there is a good nor there is a bad. There is only you within you for your purposes and for everybody's purposes. Every other teaching will come out to either gain or loss. And if it is gain it is somebody's loss. If it is a loss, it is somebody's gain. It is a business. And business can never be truth.

Con somebody, talk to them, I am enjoying. This sickness has done so good to me, you can't believe it. I am so happy that I am ill, you can't believe it! Because I never had the time to look at people. They all had the time to look at me. Now I have the time to look at people. I never knew that people who wear bana perfect all the time can be walking naked. I never knew that. Seeing is believing. I never knew that yesterday hot weather made a person to ask me jokingly permission, "Can I go somewhere naked?" I said, "It is sixty miles. Sixty miles, naked? Police will arrest you somewhere." "Well suppose my car has tinted glass. It is a tinted glass through which you can't see. Tinted glass. If my car has a tinted glass can I drive naked?" I said, "The driver's side of the glass cannot be tinted by rule, and if it is tinted police will feel there is something funny going on."

Look at the mind and its weakness. Look at the gratitude of a person to do 'manmat'... that a person cannot stand little heat, it cannot stand the little cold, it cannot stand a little sacrifice in life. Its mind is totally ruling it. That mind which Guru says: "Eh man meriaa too sadaa raho har naale." That mind. Mind is supposed to be with God. God is supposed to be with your mind. You cannot do it. There's no ritual. You don't need a person to bow to his feet to do that, no. If the Guru's word is with you, then your mind remembers that word. Then that mind shall be with the Guru's words and therefore that mind shall be with God. Because Guru's word is the link between a man and God. This "guru-guru" business has become totally a professional nonsense. And it has come to the extent of gurudom and guruship and guru-this and guru-that. And everybody makes a joke of it.

But scientifically the word of the Guru links you to God... links your mind to God. It may not link you. I am willing to give you that margin. But if the memory, if the subconscious makes a habit pattern, makes a habit to support the habit, the word of the Guru becomes handy, then you shall be with God, doesn't matter what. What is handy? What is the tool? What is the defense? Your mind should tell you. Your positive mind should tell you what Guru says in every situation.

A continuous discussion is going on with me and it will go on until I die, that one should "draw the line." One should draw the line. And my answer is, "How many lines one should draw on water?" They say, "No, no, no, no, no. That's not what I'm saying. This is a person. Yogiji, you've got to deal with this person. You've got to draw the line somewhere." Where? Somewhere? Every person is 60% water. A human which is 60% water, what line you can draw? It doesn't matter what you say, it doesn't matter what you do, it doesn't matter what you relate to. It doesn't matter how much facade you can create. No human can be consistent. And no human can be constant. And no human can believe. And no human can relieve his own habit to have a habit. Human is a shell. The muscle in the human is the mind. And mind cannot work, if the Guru's word is not within the mind.

That is why the father of the Khalsa Nation, Guru Gobind Singh, stopped us from becoming yo-yo's. He stopped us from becoming idiots. He told us to live as God made you and live as God made you and talk as God made you and be as God made you. He asked for the excellence. And then he said: "Jag lab Khalsa rehe niaaraa, Tab lag tej dio meh saaraa." He asked us to be excellent. Hooray! Be excellent and be dead, who cares? Death is inevitable. Death is inevitable! Poverty and richness does not decide the death. Your friends and your virtues do not decide the death. Death IS inevitable, but death to those who go with grace... "Jinee naam dhyiaaeeaa ghae masakat ghaal, Naanak te mukh ujale kete chhutee naal."... there death is no death. Virtues work, and virtue is not not a relative term. Draw the line where? With whom? For what? How many pages you can write on water and then read it?

Have you gone with some friend to talk on lunch? Do you know what a lunch talk is? There are three talks very important. One is lunch talk on a salad. One is a weather talk on a telephone. They are very costly talks. And one is a talk to a personal friend to make him see what is right. These are three wasteful talks. When a person is your friend and you have come to a point that you have to talk to him, just understand that he is not your friend at all. His mind cannot take it. If a friend of mine does not realize that he is jeopardizing his friendship doing something to me, do you mean talk is going to work? Do you understand the insensitivity of a human mind is a small thing? Insensitivity of a human mind only to cater to one personal inner emotion, commotion, feeling, neurosis, is the only destruction, and it will continue happening.

So long a person does not clean his own mind it is the stinking, dirty, ugly mind which has not been meditated upon and cleansed every morning and used day by day, and day by day, it is like eroded teeth which cannot chew for you. Your sweetness and your power by the outer self has no value at all if the mental is not cleaned. Hu-man being. The light of the mind is the strength of God. The self of the mind is the God Itself. And the mind of the Sikh is the living Guru in itself. It cannot be destroyed. It cannot be destroyed! There is a saying in Punjabi: "Ay dee hadee Sikh." This man is born a Sikh. It means to the very grit that man is Sikh! Less than that one is not a Sikh.

Sikhism is a very different religion but nobody understands it, nobody wants to understand it. It has no sublimation. It starts from crystallization. Mint quality, gem quality. No fakiness works. And when a Sikh is a fake and is foggy, and he wants to stimulate, he can't. Then he gets depressed. Then he becomes Catholic... Catholic-Sikh... Guilt. Phobic Sikh is a Jew. Catholic Sikh is a guilt. Everybody's a Sikh, there's nothing beyond Sikh! Forget it! Sikh means student, one who has to learn to experience God. That's a Sikh. And Khalsa is who pretends or has realized the purity of God. There's no other religion in the world.

Sometimes people say, "I am this, I am this." I say, "Yeah, yeah. I know." Because there is only one religion on this earth. There is a One God, one earth, and one religion. And one religion is to be a Sikh. Sikh to become a Khalsa, to become truthful.

And Baisakhi is coming. Every Sikh is supposed to be born as a Khalsa. If he's not, he can take his time, there's no problem. But that is what it is. But what is a Sikh? A mental self which has engrossed in self created a habit, to have a habit, to lean on Guru's word. That is why Siri Guru Granth is the Guru and there is nobody on this planet who is called, "Siri Guru." "Sat Gurus"... I have seen many. God bless them. And Gurus, forget it. As many as I have seen, you can't even count. Gur, the formula, I know. Gur, Guru, Sat Guru, Siri Guru. Siri Guru Granth is just one. And then I see Sikhs calling it, "Holy Book." Ha ha ha! Most shocking! Something which can give them God, they call him "holy book?" I should book them on a murder charge! That is what they deserve! They even do not respect how to have a reverence of the Guru.

In Ardas they do say, "It is our living Guru. It is the light and the soul of the ten Gurus." And when in a conversation with a friend they call it, "Have you read my holy book?" I can't understand the discrepancies. What a juggler this man is! How this creation of God, in the image of God Itself, has become a living denial of God? How this manmat, this man who loves his mind and its negativity, is prostituting with God and wants to be honored as a married woman? Hah! Forgetting God is everywhere. You can cheat the whole world and you can decieve the entire universe, but when you have to deceive your consciousness, that's the day I'll like to see. Nobody can do it! You can tell consciousness, "Shut up, you idiot! Without you I'm must better. Thank you." And she will say, "Okay, baby. When you will drop the shell of the body, you will be in my clutches. That day you shall not masturbate the infinity of God's truthfulness." You can do those physical nonsenses for a while,
boy. You can play at this thieving circus. You can womanize and you can prostitute and you can cheat and you can steal and you can lie and you can go on, and on, and on. You can divert and convert and shutter and shatter. You can do whole thing, but baby boy, just remember, I am consciousness and I am here and the day you drop this rasaa... this tattwa rasaa... these five tattwas of your body, you shall be in my hand! And then I'l spank you in hell and burn you over there. Because when consciousness becomes unfriendly, tragedy is unlimited.

Somebody once asked me, "Why should I be your student?" I said, "Not at all." The person said, "That's all you have to say?" I said, "Yeah." Person said, "But how you feel about it?" I said, "One load less. And you should not become my student." "Why?" I said, "You become my student, I'm going to tell you to read the Guru, number one. Problem will start. Number two I'm going to tell you, 'live the Guru.'" Person said, "How to live the Guru?" I said, "I'll tell you, if you'll be my student. And third I will tell you, 'perfect the Guru.' And when you will be perfect, your ego will be so good that you'll feel so fantastic. Then I'll tell you go and serve those who have done nothing. And then you'll freak out." Person said, "Are you there, Yogiji, to freak out everybody?" I said, "I just do two things. Either I take a freak out and make him to be a human, or I seal him under my seal under the order of the day that he's a permanent freak. That's what I do. That's my job."

There are no two ways. Either you are real or you are phony. Or you are a gem quality or you are not. It is straight forward yes and no. If you are Guru's ward, then you have no other reward. Mind my words! If you are Guru's ward, you don't care for any other reward. So when you care for other reward, you have nothing to do with Guru. Because when your mind plays, then you do not plan, idiot! You got this life after 8.4 million lifetimes and you waste it, and you are one of the most stupid born, worse than animal, worse than the rose flower and worse than that little ant which knows the season and can speculate through his own environmental intuitiveness how to live. You became human by virtue. You earned to be human.

Gur kirpaa te bhagat kamaaee,
Taae maanas dehee paaeh.
Is dehee ko simran dev.

This body is worshipped by the angels. You got it. You don't worship it. Worshipping is to use this body to tell the mind to glorify the soul within it. And when you don't do that, then you have to do something. How to pass the time.

Once I was travelling in Europe in a train. And two people were very bored. They got bored listening to the tapes. They got bored sleeping. They got bored with everything. So in one place the train stopped. They went out and bought the playing cards. And they started playing playing cards. And they asked me, do I know how to play playing cards? I said, "I do." "Would you like to play playing cards?" I said, "I will." "When?" I said, "Now." And I played and I won the game. And they said, "Fantastic. You play again." I said, "No. I played to tell you I have played playing cards, I know playing cards, and they are useless. That I can certify." "But what you will do in case you feel bored?" I said, "I'll meditate." That is what meditation is for. When you are angry, you are frustrated, you are depressed, you need to counsel, you need to cry, you need to call somebody, don't waste any penny. Sikh Dharma needs every penny of it. Buy a better chuni, buy a better dress, buy a better shoe, buy a better car. Pay off
your Master Card, pay off your other thing. You need money. And the freeway to make the mind strong is sit down and meditate and clean it.

What you do when you feel hot? You go and have cold shower. Don't you? Simply when your mind is hot, cold shower is meditation. Put on a tape, listen to it, sit down. Mind will fight. I'm not saying mind won't fight. Mind said, "Idiot, don't listen to any tape." It will lay a trip on you. Hooray! Go with the trip, but don't trip, for God's sake. Don't fall. Don't lose your strength before your own mind. How can a father feel very graceful when he is licked before his own son? Mind is your own child. How can you lose before your own child and still live with grace? You know why? Because you are attached to the child. You have not trained the child. Child is nothing but an idiot. Because it happens to be your child, so you cater to it. Mind is your child. Guru says that. "Man too jot saroop hei." Oh my mind, you are the light, you are the light. Because soul can come to you. YOUR soul, not mine. Leave me alone. I don't want to bargain with you. My soul can come to
me and your soul can come to you through the mind. And if mind is foggy, mind is unfriendly, mind is neurotic, then soul cannot come to you. If your soul cannot come to you, then how the one who is the Soul of all souls, God, can come to you? Tell me who is cheating whom?

You don't like me and you don't want to listen to me. Well, fine with me. I'm not upset. But I'll tell you something. One thing does work. It is the only thing which works. Not one thing which works. It is the only thing that works, when you can see through your mind your own soul. When you see through yourself your own light. And how many of you have sat down this morning and disciplined yourself to see that? Hooray! That yogi who sat on the nails to just show you that practice can make the nails not to penetrate through body, you have not learned from that. That rose which tells you the fragrance makes the rose a rose, you didn't learn from that. That dog which came in heat, he tells you that there is a time and space for everything, you didn't learn from that. That forest on the top of the mountain which tells you that God is the biggest gardener on the earth, you have not gone to plant those. We worship mountains because they tell us the height. We worship the ocean
because it tells us vastness. We worship power. And you don't have your OWN power, and you don't worship your OWN soul? Because your neurotic mind is not friendly with you and you cannot straighten it out? And you talk of God, you talk of money, you talk of a big house? All things are fortunate, but what a misfortune comes with it.

Ask somebody, give him 36 course lunch, all right? And ask him to eat. And he'll say, "I don't have a stomach for it. No, no, please, just a little." He said, "Moment I open my mouth to put food in my mouth, I'll vomit." What you can do? You can't. Your all preparation, your all thing and all those 36 courses and all that and whole show is wasted. Exactly your mind is not yours, the whole life is wasted.

You think people will love you for your sex? No. They love you for money? No. They love you for your occult powers? No. They love you for your miracles? No. They love you for you? No. Then what anybody loves for anybody? Everybody loves to live off other's power, energy, psyche. Every aura lives through other aura. And it is natural. This is unseen God. And if you have animal aura, why should somebody love you like a human? If this harmonium has a foot and a half aura, if that dog in the street has a 3 1/2 foot aura, why you human who has only 3 foot aura should be considered as a human? Tell me. You should have nine foot on each side -- eighteen foot aura. And from 18 feet aura, you have 3 foot aura. Shame on you, you dirty, worse than a dog! And you think you are a human? You think you can manipulate? No, you can bark. Your tongue will look like, "Bow, wow, wow." (Makes barking noises.) That's how you will talk. Nobody will hear you as a human. He will hear you (barking)
because you have an aura like a dog, you will sound like a dog and you can never reach dog.

You have to reach God. Then you should have a Godly aura. Then you won't even speak and the person will say, "I am blessed by your visit. I enjoyed your presence. I feel good in your company." Oh stupid, it is not you! It is your aura! Don't egomaniac think you have anything other than your aura. Don't think you have anything other than your arcline and that is the property of the soul... the radiant body. That is Guru Gobind Singh.

"I am Khalsa." So....I said, "Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh." "WAHE GURU JI KA KHALSA, WAHE GURU JI KI FATEH!" (Person shouts very loudly.) I said, "Oh my God, what are you trying to prove?" Person said, "I am Khalsa!" I said, "Radiant body has behind it subtle body. Be nice, be beautiful." You have forgotten the strength of the manners. You want to work everything in life with the strength of the material. If you can't take material, 7 yards of material, you do not have the manners how to make a suit out of it, you can't wear it.

Manners come handy in everything. What is the manners of the Khalsa? Pure, good like God. Not, "God is good." The difference between every religion and Sikh Dharma is very vital. In every religion, God is good. We should worship Him. We should praise Him. We should beg out of Him. We should be with Him. We should find Him. We should work for it. Sikh Dharma says, "Be good as God." God is your example. Hey, you are finding God? They say, "Don't find God. God is everywhere. Why to waste time?" Why to waste time on something which is everywhere. Waste time on something which is special. But if you want to waste time, go ahead. Waste time on a girl, waste time on a salad, waste time on a friendship. Waste time on things. Waste time, it is your time, boy. This pranic time, baby boy, given to you, my dear little kiddo girl, this time is given to you. Waste it, it is yours. But once you waste it, it won't come back.

Prepare the apple pie, all right? Beautiful, taste it, wonderful. And then throw it in the garbage, and then eat it. Beautiful apple pie is life. Taste of life is beautiful. You throw it in a garbage can and you want people to eat it? Forget it! That's why you don't have friends. That's why nobody respects you. That's why nobody likes you. Because you are a beautiful apple pie but you want to deal from your garbage can. This practical joke people don't like. People like to buy, even. They want to pay money for the apple pie which is in a dish. If you cannot dish out your apple pie, your soul, nobody's your friend. Don't blame others. Give your soul, God will give you Infinity. That is what it means, "Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh!" That's what it means. "Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa," be good as God. God be your example, God be your monitor, God be your statue, God be your thing. God is what you should look at, see, and be so. And be good as that. Don't worship
God because God is good. You are wasting time and God is really in a bad mood. You call on God all the time. All the time. What for? You have no other thing to call on?

Sikh Dharma says, "Be good as God and serve others." Serve others for no benefit. Because God serves without benefit. You understand? You understand the seriousness of this?

Daindaa de leinde thak paah

...this is your Japji. From time to time immemorial, you have been eating out of that God. You have been living off of that God. And through His command He has commanded so. He doesn't draw the line. And Yogiji should draw the line? Hooray! Give me a grace, give me a break! How fictitious I may be, but still I am considered God's man. And I should draw the line? I call myself a God's man. I call myself a Guru's Sikh. I call myself Khalsaji. And I should draw the line in kindness and compassion? What a stupid religion is that? And what a stupid man is that? Who believes in God and draws the line. And what a Harimandir is that which has only one door? It has four doors in all directions. Understand?

Jugaa jugantar kaahe kaah.

Carefree is that God which prevails through everything. He is prevelant, He is prevailing, He shall be. Aad sach, jugaad sach, heibhee sach, Nanak hosee bhee sach. That God. That all prevailing.

By saying stupid things, wrong things, by cashing the love into lies, you won't make the life happy. If you want to have a real intercourse, I tell you what you should do. I don't want to use those words which you use, but I'm trying to be as polite as I can be. Because I'm sitting in a spiritual congregation where I have to be modus operandus holy man, looking like a spiritual man. Let us talk that way, all right? Then you should have an intercourse. How many intercourses you get, I don't know. And what your intercourse produces, and what that production or product of the intercourse will do, I'm not discussing that. You all know.

You have one child, two children, three children. Whether they're going to be saint or not, that's your problem, not mine. And I'm asking those who believe in intercourse, have an intercourse with your soul once. Once! See if you can be the same. And apply your mind to do it.

You know, you have fantasies. I was told that these days people have fantasies. Well, have a fantasy that you have a soul like an Infinite light. And you go in it, penetrate in it, that's penetration, and then you stimulate in it, and then you ejaculate in it, and then you become it! You will see God! That is the way to be with God. Hooray! Do what is to be done. What is on the earth is in the heaven and what you do on the earth, do it for God's sake, in heavens, too. Within you is the heavens. There is othing beyond you.

--Guru Nanak, 25th pauree of Japji

One who is king of the kings and grace of the grace, Paatishaah and Baadishaah. There are two words. Paatishaaho is one who's grace of the grace. The king who's grace of the grace. Baadishaa is baad, who has the material world, and he is the owner of the material. Paatishaah is who is the owner of the grace.

Jisano bakhshe sifat saalaaho.
Naanak paatishaahee paatishaaho.

Nanak confirms it. The one who has that grace, whom God gave that grace, he cannot be destroyed. Because Nanak gave him the grace of the grace.

Jisano bakhshe sifat saalaaho.
Naanak paatishaahee paatishaaho.

And God gives. God gives. Let us read it very slowly and firmly.

Bahotaa karam likhiaa naa jaaeh.

Bahotaa karam... Too much of action cannot be written. It's a very simple translation. Bahotaa karam likhiaa...Likhan means to write. Simple. Japji is very simple. It is the Jap of the Ji. It is the meditation of the soul. This is one bani with 40 stanzas, 2 mantras, (one slok is a mantra), the first mool mantra, and total is 40 paurees. It is the meditation, is Jap Ji, Jap of the Ji. It is the meditation of the Ji. "Ji" means the soul.

Bahotaa karam likhiaa naa jaaeh.

Bahotaa karam. Too much of action cannot be written. Nobody has the capacity of too much action.

Bahotaa karam likhiaa naa jaaeh.
Vadaa daataa til naa tamaaeh.

God is so big and you... "til" means just a little seed. "Til" is a very little seed. Sesame seed. Vadaa daataa til naa tamaaeh. God is so great He cannot be fixed into that sesame seed. That's what it's saying. Vadaa daataa til naa tamaaeh. The action is...so many actions. You know, so many lives, so many creativities, so much. It is all:

Kar Aasan Dithaa Jao.

He sits still and creates and creates and creates and creates. Crates and crates of crates he creates. Such a creative man. Unbelievable. Right and wrong, whatever it is, it is all creativity. He's crazy with creativity. That's why he creates craziness, too. Because wherever you draw the line, you'll be bound. Soul is free, you are bound. Craziness will start. All craziness is when you bind the bindaries and bind yourself. No, don't do that. Vadaa daataa til naa tamaaeh. Next?

Kete mangeh jodh apaar.

Oh, some ask for super natural powers. Jodh apaar. The powers which cannot be contained. Maintained. Infinite powers.

Kete mangeh jodh apaar.

Some start counting how much is God, what is His length, what is His height, where It is, why It is where It is. Come on.

Ketiaa ganat nahee veechaar.

Some people got tired and died doing all this.

Kete khap tuteh vekaar.

Some people got broken and wasted.

Kete khap tuteh vekaar.
Kete lai lai mukar paaeh.

Ahh, that's what we are. Some who takes and denies. Ha ha, I have not taken anything. No no no. God doesn't give me anything. I prayed yesterday, He didn't come through. You prayed and your prayer was not pure. You were parodying a prayer. You were manifesting a prayer. You were phonifying the prayer. You were stupidly praying. He knows what is best for you and what is bad for you.

You know, you guys are so funny. You prayed and now I can't go home. What a relationship! I mean to say, if I would have gone home, what an easy thing it would have been. Nothing to eat, nothing to work out, nothing, the whole thing. Not to go to rehab... the whole thing would have been finished. But if you guys want to make fun of me, it's fine. It's okay. I'm here. But what I'm saying is a reality. (Loud sound comes from outside.) Oh, Wahe Guru! Somebody's tire must have burst out. All right. Well, don't worry. It's not a gunshot, is it? You got just scared. What happened? (Student: "A muffler on someone's car backfired.") That's it? It was not an overcoat, it was just a muffler.

Look at the one sound has created such a fear! We were in the heavens, we all came hurling to the earth! Surprising. See how our automatic compulsory cells work? What they call it in English? Reflex response. Ha ha ha ha! Because we know when it happens, taa, it's danger! God did "bang" and He created the world, and you can't even hear this "bang." But God wanted to show me where you really are at. We were in Japji and here we come here, into the muffler of the car. Everybody went through it. Ha ha ha ha! Anyway....

Kete lai lai mukar paaeh.

When it comes to mukar paaeh business, that's why the car banged. To show the reality. Kete lai lai mukar paaeh. It's a very psychological trauma that man's infinity and greed makes him shallow and hallow and empty. To fill that emptiness he takes and takes and takes. A person who is hallow and shallow and empty shall take and take and take and will give nothing. And he is a bottomless pit.

Kete lai lai mukar paaeh.

And then he will deny, "No, no, I don't take." Have you seen those psychic sharks? They come and waste your time, lay their number on you and do all the stupid things, and then they say, "I was just visiting as a friend." My God! If such three friends come during the day, you don't have a nights sleep at all. All right.

Kete lai lai mukar paaeh.
Kete moorakh khaahee khaa-eh.

There are some fools who eat and eat of the eat. Even they eat leftovers of others. Psychic sharks. They eat, they eat of the leftovers of the others. They are so stupidly eatable they want to eat everything. I call them, "Eat-idiotics." You have seen an eat-idiotic? You meet that man and he will talk always of food, eating, where, when. In polite words we call him, "Gourmet." But they never eat their own ego. They never eat their own frustration. They never eat their own shallowness. They never eat their own stupidity. They never eat all what they should eat. There are not 36 dishes course, there are million dishes course they should eat. All right... Next line?

Ketiaa dookh bhookh sad maar.

And now Guru is turning to, after all this explanation, Ketiaa dookh bhookh sad maar. Now he is going to qualify it. It is called... first he classified it. First is psychological analysis of the people who want to be and not to be. Ketiaa dookh bhookh sad maar. If there is, "If" is silent in this, Ketiaa dookh bhookh sad maar, there are many dookh..."dookh" means disease, uncomfortability, unhappiness, all bad things blended together is called "dookh." Dookh, bhookh, hungers. There are a lot of discomforts and hungers and multiplied by hundred thousand times, "Sad Maar." "Maar" means projected damage. Three things are very important in this: dookh, uneasiness; bhookh, hunger; a hundred times projected at you, sad maar.

Ketiaa dookh bhookh sad maar.
Eh bhi ddat teree daataar.

That is Thy gift, oh Lord. Now how many of you qualify this? If we get a little nail in our foot we say, "Oh my God. Japji has done no miracle today." I have seen one person who uses Guru Ram Das for parking space for her car. She always says, whenever I have seen her entering the parking lot, she says, "Guru Ram Das, see through it," and somebody exactly in a second pulls over and there it goes. And I say, "It is a very rough use of...I mean, parking is parking, but it is a very rough use of Guru Ram Das. Ha Ha Ha!" But that's what the person wants to do. What should I say? It is their private affair. I don't want to interfere. But, I'm saying, Ketiaa dookh bhookh sad maar. Eh bhi ddat teree daataar. Oh God, it is your blessing.

Because this morning somebody called and talked to me. "Yogiji, why people are not getting off your back?" I said, "I have got a big back. I have a big backer, and a big back. Why should they get off my back? They want to enjoy it." Eh bhi ddat teree daataar. Next?

Band khalaasee bhaanai ho-eh.

Band means "tie up." Khalaasee means "freedom." Bhaanai hoeh. Bhaanai ke daa? God's will. God's will will grant you freedom from the confinemnt. Band khalaasee bhaanai ho-eh.

Hor aakh naa sakai ko-eh.

No else can say so. No else can say so. Qualifying this line is also Jis hath jor kar vekhai so-eh, Naanak utam neech naa ko-eh....this is the qualifying line of that. What is that Japji pauri? How it starts? Somebody knows. Even one person. See, it is a saving grace. Come on, come on, come on.
Aakhan jor chupai neh jor.
Jor naa mangan den naa jor.
Jor naa jeevan maran neh jor.
Jor naa raaj maal man sor.
Jor na suratee giaan veechaar.
Jor naa jugatee chhutai sansaar. Jis hath jor kar vekhai so-eh.
Naanak utam neech naa ko-eh.

--Guru Nanak, 33rd pauri ofJapji Sahib

The whole that Japji pauri is right in this line. What it says? This line?

Band khalaasee bhaanai ho-eh.
Hor aakh naa sakai ko-eh.
Je ko khaa-ik aakhan paa-eh.

If somebody takes upon himself, khaa-eh tere, one takes it, one takes it in. Khaanaa means takes it in. To translate and to understand Japji is not very difficult. It is a simple language but sometimes people mis-spell it in explanation. Jo ko khaa-ik aakhan paaeh. One who takes over himself, takes it in, and says, "I am going to say it, I am going to say it." Yogi is not a yogi. Say it. (sangat repeats, "Yogi is not a yogi.") If Guru wants him to be a yogi, your saying won't do. Who says? Says the One who says says it. And that is what will live. Not what others say. Je ko khaa-ik aakhan paa-eh.

Oh jaanai jetee-aa moeh khaa-eh.

Then he will be beaten up by the shoes on his face. How good it is, you take a shoe from outside and beat somebody's face off. There's no better described insult than this. There's no better curse than that. So, Oh jaanai jetee-aa moeh khaa-eh. Next?

Aape jaanai aape deh.

One He knows and one He gives. People look like avatars and miracles and all that. No, no, no, please. He knows and He gives. Wait, sometimes He doesn't give early and sometimes He doesn't give late... Wait.

Somebody was telling me today, "Yogiji, when you are going to act?"
I said, "When I will be permitted." Hukam, hukamee. I said, "That's what I am." "Hukamee andar sabh ko bahar hukam no koeh." All are in the order and command of the One. Nobody's outside. If Yogiji has to act, Yogiji will be given the orders to act. Then nation will tell me to act. Now time has come, Khalsa nation wants me to act. I am going to act, but I can't act. On one hand they want me to act, the other hand they tie my legs. What a joke. No. It's not fair. I shall act, you should let me act. That's the law. On one hand you do not let me act. On the other hand, you want me to act. No! That's not the command and obedience. That's not the law. M an of God acts as God wants him to act. Neither he overacts nor he underacts. Act is an act and it should be act of God. Good as God! You understand? That is Sikh Dharma. Good as God, not God is good. That is other 22 religions. They tell you, "God is good." You don't tell that. You say, "Good as God." All right.

Aape jaanai aape deh.

Speak louder, it is a language of the soul!

Aape jaanai aape deh.
Aakh-eh se bhe ke-ee keh.
There are very few and far in between who can say that God gives and gives and knows to give, and gives Himself. Very rare are those who will say, "God gives and knows what He gives", and don't put their ego in between. Aakh-eh se bhe ke-ee keh. Next line is very good.

Jisano bakhshe sifat saalaaho.

I like that line myself personally. This is very much what I like.

Jisano bakhshe sifat saalaaho.
Naanak paatishaahee paatishaaho.

"Somebody said that day, "Well, I love the Guru and Guru loves Yogiji." And I said, "No sir, that's not true. I love the Guru and Guru loves Yogiji and Guru loves all equal. It's a matter to recognize. And to recognize is to realize. So those of you who are the Sikh of the Guru, please don't leave the Guru because your mind is not with you. If you'll become slave of the mind, you will become slave 'til infinity. Mind IS infinity, but it is a recognized Infinity. God is not recognized Infinity. Mind and God have those differences. The difference between soul and mind is, when the soul got the body, and was going to leave, and soul said, "God, I am part of you. How you will remember me?" God said, "I will be everywhere." And it said, "How can I reach you?" He said, "Oh, oh, God gave the mind." Because mind is beyond time and space. Most powerful in Infinity. And Infinity in identity. Therefore it has to be transformed into satya. Power of the truth. That's what Sat Nam does.
Puts five tattwas into cleansing and puts eight chakras into action so the harmony of the weakness and disharmony of the weakness can be put together into a natural, neutral reality so the person can be Sat Purakh. Jisano bakhshe sifat saalaaho. Naanak paatishaahee paatishaaho.

Was I born a Yogi? No. I wanted to be Yogi? No. Did I pray to be Yogi? No. Do I like to be a Yogi? No. What should I do? He made me so I am. You don't like it, don't like it. Have your way. Am I not very polite? If Guru makes somebody a yogi, somebody a bhogi, somebody a dhogi, somebody a rhogi, it is Guru's problem. Leave the assets of assets and balance of debts to the Guru. Tell your mind, "Eh man meriaa, too sadaa raho har naale." Oh my mind, be with God. Har naal raho too man mere dookh sabh visaarnaa. Oh my mind, be with the God, because if you will be the God, then I will have no complaints, I will have no discomfort. Are you there? Do you understand the formula?

Your problems are you are not with the God. I was not with the God, look at what a problem I got. I got sick. When the Golden Temple was attacked, Oh, I flipped! I am willing to admit, my faith even in God got shaken. And I learned my stupidity. When I was on the surgery table, they were going through me through like as you pull through the gun barrels, you know? And they were pulling through all those instruments and telling me, "Yogiji, look at the screen and find out, do you feel a pressure in the chest? We are cleaning you arteries." It was a fun. It was something you have to watch. It was quite a trip. And I was saying, "Look, look Yogi." I was telling, because they were calling me, "Yogiji," at that time, too. They said, "Yogiji, are you all right? Are you alive?" I said, "Yeah." "And see, this whole thing is going through you." I said, "Yes, I understand." I understood the difference between hell and heaven. In hell you can't do anything, you only can look at it.
In heaven you do it all and you don't want to look at it. That's all it is. And he said, "Yogiji, you see this?" I said, "Yeah, I am seeing it." And I was looking at myself. And I said to myself, "Oh Yogi, idiot, you got emotionally involved." And then I thought, "How many people are around who are not involved in anything but in their emotions? Oh God, what will happen to them?" And forget about those who are involved in emotion. Think of those Khalsajis who are involved in their commotions and in their neuroses and psychoses and in all...God, how many words are there?... whole psychology about it. And then they want to counsel themselves. They even pay $120, $200 an hour but they won't spend one hour on meditation. Because that you have to do it. Nobody wants to peel the banana. Everybody wants to have a potassium in the body. What a wonderful thing.

Cheldee ko gadee kahe jele doodh ko ko-aa
Rangee ko narangee kahe dekh Kabir rarohiaa.

The train moves, they call it stiff stick. Gadee means which doesn't move. Cheldee ko gadee kahe, which moves they call it cannot move. That's the name of the gadee. Cheldee ko gadee kahe jele doodh ko ko-iaa. The milk which is heated up, it becomes ko-aa. Ko-aa means lost. Kabir is making a pun of the words.

Cheldee ko gadee kahe jele doodh ko ko-aa
Rangee ko narangee kahe...

The orange always has a cover....they say it is a colorless. Narangee means colorless. Narangee. It has no color. Rangee ko narangee kahe dekh Kabir ra rohiaa. When Kabir saw this he wept. And that is what we are. We are human in body, without a mind. Because we have not trained our mind. Mind training has to start with our children. Mind training... we have to first become children of God. And then we have to do our own mind training. And meditation is a mind training.

Anybody who does not meditate will have a stinking mind. Anybody who does not take a bath, will have a stinking body. And soul doesn't like it. That's why I'm grateful your prayer worked and in gratitude of those prayers I come and I enjoy to be in the presence of the Guru and I share with you some experience which I collect or gather from the Guru's words through the week. That's the only obligation which I can discharge well. Rest, I am stupid. I can take to you heavens, but I am very stupid with the earthly laws. Please forgive me. I try to act very well. But you know, I have a difficulty. I can't drive. I do not know how to turn, therefore I don't drive. It's not that I don't want to drive. I do drive in Santa Fe, I do go from the Ranch to that thing, and that I can drive safely. Because once I start driving I may end up in heavens, who knows? I'm a very good cook, I don't cook. I don't know whom I am going to cook. So I keep my faculties under control. And for that I am very
grateful and in my sickness your prayers....

I was very surprised and I was so blissful. That day I came in the ashram, there was a one man sitting here and he was meditating and chanting alone. And I told him, "what meditation is this?" And somebody told me, "He is meditating for your health." I said, "This one alone person, the son of the Guru, is pious of the piety. Is gracious than the grace. Is lofty than the loftiness. Because he didn't wait, he didn't ask, he did what should be done." And then I bowed on the marble and I said, "Yogi, forget about dying and going home. You've got to work. They won't let you go."

Jisano bakhshe sifat saalaaho.
Naanak paatishaahee paatishaaho.

With these words I'll like to thank you and if God gives me another week and I could be here, I shall be in a position to share with you whatever I can. Just understand, I am a living human being in absentia. Absent. I am not absent minded. But I am absent physically. So all this guitar walking and shows, so with these words, having to love you, I'm going to ask Guru Singh to check out the numbers how many people are coming to the sadhana because I will like to see you all learning one thing:

Doing sadhana is more precious than any precious thing in life.

Three words decide the ultimate end of life: Sadhana, aradhana prabhupati.

Sadhana....<the clock on the wall in GuruRam Das Ashram chimes the hour...> now the bell tolled. See, it says, it's one thing: Ik Ong Kar. That's what it said. Sadhana, aradhana, prabhupati. Sadhana.... who does sadhana, as described to clean the mind. Strong strength in the mind and have the mind. Aradhana is to do it against all odds. That's called aradhana. I mean, nothing can stop it! Aradhana. Prabhupati makes you the master, God. Then you can pleasurely say, "Good as God."

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh!
