    The 8th day of febraury at Shanmukhananda hall, Mumbai, Twenty-six contestants - all sabat soorat Sikhs were getting ready to set an example in front of the SIKH YOUTH and the MEDIA INDUSTRY which has made Sikhs merely a cartoon character in the eyes of many. Out of 26 boys, the majority of the boys were AMRITDHARI SINGHS.

    The journey started on 2nd Feb at 5.a.m. with the GYM sessions following the NITNEM,then breakfast, with choreographers, trainers and directors working hard all day & night long for grooming the personalities of the contestants.

    S.Puran Singh Banga, main organiser of the event ran after everything from sponsors to media personalities to make the event big hit.The daily routine ended up with the visit to the local Gurudwara Sahib Ji with contestants performing KIRTAN there.T

    he 6 day training schedule was the way to give the SOCIETY and YOUTH what all their dreams, plans and desires of "IT MARAG PAER DHAREEJEY,SIR DEEJEY KAAN NA KEEJEY" for the SIKH PANTH.

    All the 26 contestants worked very hard in different fields, be it their turbans, knowledge regarding gurmat, ramp walks,etc. Training was given by prominent media personalities such as S.JASPAL SINGH SEHGAL(GRASIM MR.INDIA-2002-03), S.MANMEET SINGH(ADVERTISEMENTS ARTISTS),S.MANPREET SINGH(ACTOR),S.GURBAKHSHISH SINGH (MR.SINGH INDIA-07,runner up),S.GURPEJ SINGH(WINNER, MR.SINGH INDIA-07). During the training sessions, trainers judged all the aspects of the contestants.

    All the contestants showed their talents in various fields such as KIRTAN,ARDAAS RECITATION, TABLA, DANCE, SINGING, etc.

    The GRAND FINALE EVENING,hall was full with the public. The panel of Judges was S.Jaspal Singh Sehgal,S.Manmeet Singh,S.Harpreet Singh (MR.SINGH INTERNATIONAL-05) was seated along with the V.I.P's.The Anchors were Manpreet Singh & Pooja Tondon. First round was CASUALS ROUND in which contestants showed their modern style statements from a college going student to a hip-hop dancer.The BHANGRA & GIDDA artists were there to show the beautiful Punjabi culture & to entertain the public.

    The second round was the PHYSIQUE ROUND in which all the contetants were dressed in KESRI TURABNS n black outfits to show off the PURE KHALSA with SIROPAS being tied along their backs.In this round contestants showed their well built physiques with biceps to six-pack abs.T

    OP 11 were taken out in this round and questions were asked to judge their IQ levels. Contestants performed a 10 minute dance sequence to show the love and a friendly bond between them.

    The last and the final round was the TRADITIONAL ROUND, in which contestants showed our tradition by being dressed up like KINGS. Wearing Sherwanis with heavy jewelleries with SRI SAHIB in their hands to show their PRIDE.

    The top seven contestants were taken out and the questions were asked after this round. Then the TOP 3 winners of the event were announced who were Jatinderpal Singh from Delhi (Winner), Deepinder Singh (1st ruuner up) from Mohali and Pavneet Singh (2nd runner up) from Delhi.The winners got a GOLD KHANDA SAHIB with the Trophies and other prizes.Ten other titles were also given in the categories of Best Turban, Best Beard, Best Physique, etc.


    The daily routine ended up at the local Gurdwara on all days. The whole of the event was organised by GURU TEGH BAHADUR PANCHAYATI SEWAK JATHA,MUMBAI.



    After winning the title of Mr Singh 2008, 27-year-old Jatinder Pal Singh is on a mission. This Delhi-based turbanator, who is in the city, has taken upon himself the task of encouraging young Sikh boys to sport their headgear with élan.



    "I want teenage boys to know the importance of a turban. I am also holding talk shows in schools and colleges in this regard."


    Jatinder won the title at a contest held in Mumbai this February. A postgraduate in Computer Sciences, Singh is currently working for the HCL Infosystems. "I participated in the contest to make a mark. I had all the prerequisites to participate in the contest including a good height, well-toned physique and above all a sound knowledge about our Punjabi culture and Sikhism."




    This strapping young lad, whose father is an Indian Air Force officer, spews oodles of confidence as he says, "I virtually didn't need any kind of preparation for the contest. Religion is something that we practice every day at home while the symbols of Sikhism, the turban, kara, beard including other things that I already have since I was born into a Sikh family. I stick to these symbols for they help me stand apart in the crowd. These symbols of my religion make me unique person."



    "I have vowed to make a difference to the identity of Sikh boys. After winning this title, its is my responsibility to let the world know what does it mean to be a sabut surat Sikh (a complete Sikh).
