Summary of Question:Forgiving Myself
Category:Other
Date Posted:Monday, 11/26/2001 8:16 PM MST

Hi,

I am really worried about one thing that I have done wrong I am so worried
that I could hardly sleep, so please help me urgently to answer my question.

I knew that a sikh should not SWEAR (PROMISE) anything they could not fulfill
I have done that mistake. About one year ago I make a Promise of someone (with his name), that I will not do something in my life again but I fail to fulfil this promise.

I feel so guilty now why I have done it. It is becuase of me this person
will be punished by god? please help me to answer this question? I am in
a huge worried, if something goes wrong to this person I would never forgive
myself I would rather prefer to commit suicide myself rather then this
person to be punished. Please also tell me how could I be forgiven by god, I
pray every day and night I attend the temple every twice a week since last 3
years. Please help me I really feel very very hard to even breathe.

I shall be obiliged if you could please answer my question fast so I could
try to sleep and rest for a while so my mind could feel comfortable.

Thanks

Sat Siri Akaal. The issue is NOT God forgiving you. It is YOU forgiving yourself. Big difference. Also, this person has responsibility! He or she is a thinking being, so their part in this matter is THEIR responsibility. They have to TAKE that responsibility and own it: it is not yours to own.

Chant the Naam daily. Sit and do it for at least 30 minutes and during your chanting, give the Guru this problem, give the Guru your failure, give the Guru your faults. When you are finished you will feel peaceful.

Although I cannot remember the cites in Siri Guru Granth, I know that often SGGS says how we (mankind) are such idiots and fools, but STILL, whatever we are, we are STILL the Guru's own. So, take ownership of being the Guru's princess daughter. Guru forgives you. Until you FORGIVE yourself and put this behind you, you are likely to make this mistake again and again. So, look in the mirror, and say to your reflection OVER and OVER until you feel clear: "I forgive you for this mistake. "

Guru ang sang,
