Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa

Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

In India, I know it is customary to give money to the gurdwara if you want an akhand paath to be done. Here, the Canadian community I am living in, they want $1100-$1500 if you want an akhand paath to be read, but the total amount is close to $2000 Canadian. I was wondering is it ok to charge this much money for the recitation of gurbani.... I know everyone should give donations to the gurdwara to keep it funded, but I feel that having an akhand paath and the associated seva is only for the rich here.

Satnam ji,
I would suggest that you have an Akhand Path in your home.
This I have done many times by setting up the Guru in my home.
Hiring a few readers to stay and read through the nights. Then
between my friends and extended family we all read and take 1 hour slots.
This really works because we have the Guru with the English translation
so every one can read. This has been wonderful for our home and for the
many people that would not normally be able to read at all.

Another option would be to do a Sehej Path on your own. All this is
more authentic than having the Akand Path DONE by the Gurdwara.

Blessings to you,
SK
