WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH
Hats off to Sikhnet moderators :-)
i am a sehajdhari Sikh, trying to make myself worthy of Amrit someday in future (bu Guru's grace). since i m not born Sikh (born in punjabi brahmin hindu family), and since i have literally no sangat around me, i guess these are the major reasons i will need some time. although by Guru's grace i do wake up at amritvela and recite japji (waheguru!).
my question is : someday in future if i start wearing turban and keeping beard (just to prepare myself in that direction before i take Amrit), can i change my last name to Singh once i do so, or will i have to wait till i have taken Amrit to change my last name to Singh? i mean can my last name be Singh with turban n beard, or is it possible only after Amrit. the reason i ask is that since my last name is not Singh (as i m not born Sikh), i really don't know how to go about it.
please enlighten me

Wahe Guru Ji ka Khalsa
Wahe Guru Ji ki Fateh!
First of all, many blessings to you for your daily Japji . If Guru Ji has chosen you, then you are His Sikh. It's that simple. Between a Sikh and his Guru is just a matter of time.
You can change your name to 'Singh' without having received Guru's amrit. Understand what it means to be a Singh - and live in that nobility and dignity. When the time is right you can receive Guru Ji's amrit and become Khalsa.
There are many people who have the name of Singh, but do not live as a Singh. First feel that you are a Singh, then feel free to change your name.
