Hi I a pupil at a school in southall. One question i have is about about the question of equality. This is the mail belief of sikhism that men and women are equal in gods eyes. why are there so many different Gurdwaras for different castes in Southall for instance: Ramgharia Gurdwara.htis is what I do not understand. if u believe in equality why are the people seperated?? please reply!!

thank you very much.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. I can't tell you anything specific about the Gurdwaras you mention, because I live in the United States. (In our Gurdwara, we have many different people who come. They are people of all ages and ethnic and social backgrounds. We translate the Guru's words into English (and into Punjabi) when the hukam is read. We have Gurbani Kirtan and sometimes American songs. We have young and old.)What I can tell you is that people tend to want to gather in groups where they feel most comfortable -- and that usually means being with people who are more like them. I don't know that it's a question of "caste" so much as it may be a question of common experience and interest. You might try asking your question of the granthis in the various Gurdwaras! Have you gone to different Gurdwaras, and do you feel uncomfortable in some, and more comfortable in others? Let me know! Blessings, SP
