to me, seems like it is unfair for a girl to leave those she loves after marriage whereas the boy gets to continue living with his family, it seems more fair if both were to live on their owna nd start a new life so that both leave their family and it is fair and not one sided. is this against sikhism?
I heard one lady say it is unfair bc a mother gets her son taken away from her if he moves out to live with just his wife, but same thing on the girl's side, her parents get their daughter taken away so it sounds like preferential treatment for boys or sexist to me.
thanks

Sat nam. No, nothing in Sikhi or Siri Guru Granth Sahib requires a bride to live with her in-laws. That is an old tradition in Indian (and other) cultures, but it has no basis or requirement in the Sikh religion.
