Summary of Question:Best Way For Doing Simran?
Category:Meditation

Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh. There is someone i know that believes by doing simran ( reciting waheguru's name) is the best way to open the dasvan diwar. First of all, does that really exist, and secondly is by reciting waheguru's name over n and over the best way. Also, that person recites waheguru's name in a specific way, broken up into 4 syllables, is there a set way in reciting waheguru's name, cant one just recite it in any he/she wants to? Is there really a shortcut to opening the dasvan diwar?? Thank you for the answer in advance. Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
1. Dasam dwar DOES exist. It is not something your doctor would locate, it is a spiritual energy center at the top of the head, not a specific bone or muscle of the body.
2. There are MANY ways to recite the naam. Wahay Guroo is 4 syllables. I personally prefer to recite it clearly but naturally, not as 4 broken-up syllables. I have seen meditations described that break it up though. One can chant 'satinaam waheguroo' or the mul mantra of SGGS or 'har, har, har, har' etc. SGGS gives us many names for God, actually! Unless you are pursuing a specific meditation technique prescribed by a reputable spiritual teacher, then practice the naam in a way that 'suits' you. Everyone has their own preferred way to practice the naam and get that experience, and there is no single prescribed way given in Guru Granth Sahib.
3. There is NO shortcut. First of all, dasam dwar is nothing to mess around with, you don't want to develop it too fast; you can go crazy if you do. Seriously! Let Guru bring YOU there, don't push the door down!
4. Here are some things that any meditative practice should include. (a) be comfortable, either sitting on the floor (perhaps on a small pillowto relieve pressure on the legs) or sit straight in a chair. (b) Sit with a straight spine. None of this slump shoulder and slouchy lower back. Your experience will be better and your body will better develop into the experience if you keep your spine STRAIGHT. If your flexibility is poor, then use a chair or sitting aids and a wall to help you. And before people cry out that that is not the Sikh way, study how Bhai Nand Singh practiced. He used a pillow and was propped with a bar across his shoulders that he hung on to to stay in a meditative posture without breaking it. (I saw the gurdwara /shrine named after him in India.)(c)practice of the naam with others will magnify the experience (that's what SGGS means about being in the 'sadh sangat') (d) a quiet space that is quiet and conducive to meditation helps immensely.
Guru ang sang,
