Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa
Vaheguru Jee Ki Fateh

Been reading through some of the articles and its been real interesting. I can relate to what Gurpreet is going through. In the UK young sikhs face the same problem. I am of the same age group so i feel that i can understand what he is going through.

I myself was bought up as a punjabi sikh. I never practised sikhism and did any of my family members, yet we still refered to ourselves as sikhs. I got into sikhism at the age of 14, i read a couple of books and had some sikh mates. I got hooked onto sikhi, and slowly began to practise sikhism. I became a sikh at 16 (amrithari). At this age there are many temptations, but these are natural. I would get friends telling me to go to clubs, but for some reason that lifestyle didn't appeal to me. The majority of my friends are from a none sikh backround such as mine, so we have similar experiences. Because we have lived on the other side, i feel that we value the khalsa way of life a lot more than sikh kids who have been sikhs all their life.

We get similar cases of sikhs who want to go to clubs, trim their beard and date girls. This is a part of growing up, but as a khalsa you have certain standards to live up to, you have a rehit which you must follow and keep, not because you have to, but because you want to. To me these temptations are just minor tests from guru jee. A lot of the way you feel is to do with the sangat that you keep, therefore it is important to maintain a possitive environment. I'm at university, and things here are similar to the US. You have to be like the lotus flower, live in the world but stay on top of it.

If you are confused then the only person who i feel you can speak to is guru jee directly (hukamnama). Guru jee is the dearest friend of a sikh, and he will understand the way that you feel.

p.s.what is the indiakidz? how do you be part of it?
