(REPLY) Sat Nam. Well, I suppose you could say EK, but then you really have to add on to say EK ONG KAR, but unless one really "gets it" then you need to include the whole Mul Mantra, and then the complete Japji Sahib. Followed, of course by entire Siri Guru Granth Sahib, which is the enlightened blueprint for understanding the Sikh perspective on life. I really wonder what kind of answer you expected in just "one word"? Sorry, it takes a bit more. We are constantly needing to explain Sikhism here in the west, and so, seriously, it does start with the fact that we believe in ONE GOD, who created all of us, so we don't try to convert anyone. We respect all religions. We worship no man, but bow only to the Word of God as embodied in Siri Guru Granth Sahib. Get up early in the morning, chant God's Name, go to work, earn righteously, and share with those who are less fortunate. We respect the body as the living temple of God, so we don't take drugs (except prescription medicine), don't drink alcohol and don't smoke. We try to avoid polluting the body, so we are vegetarians. We believe in marriage as a holy union. That's some of what I tell people. There's more! Such as the fact that kindness is considered the highest virtue. SP
