It is a very honest question asked . The only reason we do not use (or better said encourage) using of Tampons - apart from medical reasons is that if you are a virgin and want to stay virgin (until marriage) you do not use Tampons (it ruptures the membrane ).

So, that is the reason I know of and I gave that to my daughters (12 & 15)when they asked me.
Now-a-days there are pads that are so thin and pretty protective. I sometimes (in my days - as I was into sports a lot) used an underwear (which is used by some woman/girls as tummy tuckers) over my regular underwear and that kept the pad pretty close to my body and gave me a good sense of security. You can try that too. Even till today I use that during my period time and am able to wear any type of clothing without worry. Hope this helps.
