I have been reading your site for a year now. I think you are doing a wonderful job, we needed someone like you for our young kids with concerns. The cast issue seems to come up a lot and your response has been it is a thing of the past. I do not agree with you on that. I am always bringing that up with my family and friends. I am a 39 year old sikh, happily married mother of a boy 14 and girl 12. My husband and I have always told my kids cast should not be a issue, it is the person like you always say. But everyone around me does not agree, especially when it comes to marriage. My parents and my in-laws would never accept it if my kids married a non jat person. I don't know how to explain that to them, now that they are getting older. Please help?

Thanks very much

Sat Siri Akal.

When people have prejudice locked in their minds, especially if they are older, there is not much you can do to change them. It's like a fossilized tree. Even an axe will break against it. You are a mother. You create the future with your touch and your wisdom. So - raise your children in the light of truth and defend them against anyone who wants to poison their mind with lies and prejudice. And whoever your children marry - support them 100%, even if your parents and in-laws do not approve. In some ways, you need to be the warrior willing to fight that battle so that your children and grandchildren will be free of prejudice for good. But wait for the right time to have the fight. Defend your children when they marry and know that, in time, your parents and in-laws will come around because love really is the strongest bond and it is only the most hard-hearted person who will permanently cut off ties with a family memebr because the family member has broken a tradition.

Guru is with you. You are raising great children. Remember that.

All love.
