sats-ri-akal!

i do not consider myself to be very religious at the moment but would like tofeel closer to God. I go to the gurudwara quite regulary, and i listen to the shabads. I find them very calming, but i think i would benefit greatly form english translations of them. I think this is a common problem as many teenagers brought up in the uk, like me often find it difficult tokeep concentration in thegurudwara.
I would particulary like to find translations into english of the shabad 'utha mata ki asis' please give me an idea of where to look!
thank you for your time!

Sat Siri Akal Ji!

The shabd you requested is "Putaa Mataa Kee Asees" and it is found on page 496 of Siri Guru Granth Sahib. If you go here: http://www.sikhnet.com/sggs/translation/and put in page number 496, then scroll down to the 5th 'paragraph' or verse you will find "Goojaree, Fifth Mehl." What follows is the shabd you requested.

All Siri Guru Granth Sahib is translated on this part of Sikhnet, so you can browse it anytime for teachings, answers, or to find translations of other shabds. You are right, it is hard for people not brought up in Punjab to know the meaning of our shabds, although it can be hard for Punjabis too, since the Teachings in Siri Guru Granth are mystical as well. Do your best.

God bless you!
-DKK
